Re: [GAME] Hurt/Heal STAR TREK SERIES: Grand Final

Really interesting. I've been at a loss for which episodes to watch over the Xmas break... this list helps a lot, thanks.

I'm surprised there's so much DS9 at the top of that list. And I'm surprised at the overall number of ENT episodes, given that I find it doesn't get a great deal of love on these boards.

EDIT: Ohhh, The Defector is a classic choice for TNG, it's such a typical "good" TNG episode, Rommie Warbirds, Picard's speeches, Worf's honor, etc.

Re: [GAME] Hurt/Heal STAR TREK SERIES: Grand Final

Comparing how the overall poll to how the qualifiers ranked in their finals for the individual shows...

Deep Space Nine

Overall poll:
1st: DS9: In the Pale Moonlight (5)
3rd: DS9: Duet
4th: DS9: The Visitor
10th: DS9: Call to Arms
14th: DS9: Sacrifice of Angels
15th: DS9: Improbable Cause
18th: DS9: The Way of the Warrior
20th: DS9: Favor the Bold

DS9 final:
1st: S6 In the Pale Moonlight (35)
2nd: S4 The Visitor
3rd: S6 Sacrifice of Angels
4th: S5 Call to Arms
5th: S1 Duet
6th: S6 Favor the Bold
7th: S3 Improbable Cause
8th: S4 The Way of the Warrior

Duet jumps from 5th to 2nd, Call to Arms & Sacrifice of Angels swap places below it, and Favour the Bold falls to last of the DS9 eps - although DS9 does best overall, as the only series to have all eight of its' qualifiers in the top 20, and the best average ranking (11th).

Star Trek (TOS)

Overall poll:
2nd: TOS: Balance of Terror
6th: TOS: City on the Edge of Forever
7th: TOS: Mirror, Mirror
9th: TOS: The Doomsday Machine
12th: TOS: The Devil in the Dark
16th: TOS: Amok Time
17th: TOS: Where No Man Has Gone Before
30th: TOS: Journey to Babel

TOS final:
1st: City on the Edge of Forever (5)
2nd: Journey to Babel
3rd: Balance of Terror
4th: Mirror, Mirror
5th: The Doomsday Machine
6th: Amok Time
7th: The Devil in the Dark
8th: Where No Man Has Gone Before

City on the Edge of Forever had a small winning margin here to start with, which might have something to do with it not even leading the TOS contingent in in the final, with Balance of Terror jumping from third of TOS to first in TOS and second overall. Journey to Babel collapsed though - not only did it fall from second to eighth, but it's the lowest-ranked episode not from VOY or ENT in the entire poll, finishing below six of the eight Voyager episodes! Otherwise, the only relative movere was swapping Amok Time and The Devil in the Dark.

The Next Generation

Overall poll:
5th: TNG: The Defector
8th: TNG: The Inner Light
11th: TNG: The Drumhead
13th: TNG: The Measure of a Man
19th: TNG: The Wounded
21st: TNG: Q Who
22nd: TNG: Yesterday's Enterprise
27th: TNG: The Best of Both Worlds, Part One

TNG final:
1st: S3 The Best of Both Worlds, Part I (33)
2nd: S2 Q Who
3rd: S3 Yesterday's Enterprise
4th: S3 The Defector
5th: S4 The Drumhead
6th: S5 The Inner Light
7th: S2 The Measure of a Man
8th: S4 The Wounded

A list which isn't quite upside down, but isn't a million miles away from it, with the top three from the TNG final being the bottom three of the TNG contingent (of which the runaway TNG winner, The Best of Both Worlds, Part One, was the first to go, one of only two non-VOY/ENT episodes to finish below VOY episodes), and two of the bottom three in the TNG final making up two of the top three TNG episodes here. TNG's clearly the middle-ranked show as a whole from the game, with an average ranking of 16th putting it between DS9 (11th) and TOS (12th)

Voyager

Overall poll:
23rd: VOY: Year of Hell, Part One
24th: VOY: Scorpion, Part One
25th: VOY: Timeless
26th: VOY: Year of Hell, Part Two
28th: VOY: Distant Origin
29th: VOY: Worst Case Scenario
35th: VOY: Scorpion, Part Two
36th: VOY: Deadlock

Voyager final:
1st: S3 Scorpion, Part One (21)
2nd: S4 Year of Hell, Part One
3rd: S3 Worst Case Scenario
4th: S4 Scorpion, Part Two
5th: S5 Timeless
6th: S2 Deadlock
7th: S3 Distant Origin
8th: S4 Year of Hell, Part Two

A bit of order-swapping, but since all the episodes were so low, all you can really say that sounds vaguely good is "It did better than Enterprise".

Enterprise

31st: ENT: The Andorian Incident
32nd: ENT: Kir'Shara
33rd: ENT: The Forge
34th: ENT: Awakening
37th: ENT: Countdown
38th: ENT: Carbon Creek
39th: ENT: The Expanse
40th: ENT: In a Mirror Darkly Part One

Enterprise final:
1st: S4 The Forge (22)
2nd: S4 Awakening
3rd: S4 Kir'Shara
4th: S1 The Andorian Incident
5th: S3 Countdown
6th: S2 Carbon Creek
7th: S2 The Expanse
8th: S4 In a Mirror Darkly Part One

And this, you can't even say THAT much about.

What I found surprising was how controversial 'The Visitor' seems to be. Towards the end, some people kept hurting it continuously and others, like me, were constantly healing it. As if for some it's the best and to others its the most overrated episode. But maybe thats just my perception, because I wanted it to win.

Wow that was close at the end, In the Pale Moonlight actually went from only one point to winning! I just knew that it would be in trouble towards the end when it was down to only two, so its a good thing I kept on voting it up. One vote to Duet and it would have lost.

I also wanted The Visitor to win, but at least it finished in the top 5 (this game is weighted towards what people don't like, and I know some don't care for it). I'm mildly disappointed to see ITPM win. I love the episode, but there are a handful of DS9 episodes I like better, and several TOS episodes I like better.

All in all, a fun game.

Ooooooo.... bad result. Visitor & Balance of Terror are outstanding episodes, In the Pale Moonlight... not so much. Besides we all know it should have been Best of Both Worlds.

Re: [GAME] Hurt/Heal STAR TREK SERIES: Grand Final

Well there you have it.

The first game started on 9th March, so its been a little over 9 Months!
(It wasnt properly organised so a couple of months could be taken off if the initial rounds started at the same time)

My 2 personal favourites City on the Edge of Forever & The Inner Light made it to the top 10
(But they are generally well liked)
Darmok is another of my faves but didnt make it to the final

In the Pale Moonlight is possibly my favourite DS9 episode, so Im quite happy with that winning.

Im not actually too familliar with Duet or The Visitor
Perhaps I should re-watch these.

Thanks to SoM for the analysis above (previous page)

Thanks to everyone who participated.

Perhaps we could do it all again next year?

As a fan of DS9, I'm very happy with the result . I definitely think ITPM deserved to win. But I'm also happy to see The Visitor doing so well.
