BULLSHIT!

A lobotomized goose can see this is nothing BUT a reboot, from stem to stern.
I'll take what the word of the guy who actually made the movie over what some whiny fanboy on a Star Trek internet message board thinks any day of the week, and twice on Sunday.
While I understand your POV, I'm very afraid when it's all said and done, Captain Robert April is going to be closer to the truth than many of us like (or will care to admit). Time will tell I guess. I so hope I'm wrong.

I guess it all depends on the definition of "reboot".
There's a lot of wisdom in that statement. One man's reboot is another man's whateverAbramscallthis.

He must be reading this board, because some here have said basically this.
That was refreshing to read that statement from him and gives me a little hope that I am indeed wrong about the reboot aspect of this movie. Of course some of my experiences with LOST have made me a little cautious at taking at face value anything Abrams & Company say.

"Star Trek XI is a "re-introduction," not a reboot, says J.J. Abrams."

Told you so!!!

Of course, there's some people who will consider anything less than a movie actored by clones of the original to be a reboot. Those people are silly.

I doubt very much that JJ Abrams ever said "whilst."

But the rest, yeah. Sounds good.

Not sure how it isn't a reboot -- Casino Royale and Batman Begins changed about as much and are called so. Casino Royale even kept Judi Dench, not unlike this version keeping Leonard Nimoy, though it's obvious that events established with her M in previous incarnations are no longer applicable to the current Bond films. Abrams seems to just be spinning things to try to appeal to divergent audiences.

Re: 'Star Trek XI' No Reboot Says Abrams

Honestly, I don't even care if it's a reboot or not, because, clearly, Abrams gets it.

"I feel like the thing about 'Star Trek,' which is kind of a relief in a way, is that it completely embraces optimism. It is undeniably, just intrinsically, the very root of optimism," said Abrams. "That humans will not only survive but actually thrive and collaborate with other species. The notion of the final frontier in space exploration is so silly and clichéd in so many people's minds, but when you actually stop to consider that 'Star Trek' is, whilst a fantasy, our future."
As long as he gets that part right, everything else will be fine.

Seems pretty reboot-like to me. I think Abrams must take the word 'reboot' to mean something more along the lines of nuBSG.

Actually, not many people know this, if you dislike a movie you can demand your money back and legally they have to return it to you.
Not legally, no.

Those of you that are declaring this a reboot, are you doing so for any reason other than visual changes? I think if you pretend everything looks mid-60s and then it fits as well as any other Trek then it's not a reboot. IMO only irreconcilable story points like gender changes and origin changes qualify you for reboot status.

To me, a reboot means restarting continuity; if this exists within the "canon" of all that has gone before, then it's not a reboot.

Been missing you for a few days here, bro.

Stop by your forum and let us know what we're supposed to think about this damned trailer, will you?

Ha!

Yeah, I'm decidedly mixed. Which I suspect will be unpopular/misunderstood in the polarized "I love it!" / "I hate it!" atmosphere of the Star Trek XI forum.

I think it might be best if you run the show for a while. Your attitude is more positive and better for the forum/movie anyway.

Besides, the forum has always been half yours.

Maybe you could be the cheerleader and I could be the crabby curmudgeon.

It could work. Let's at least give it a try!

Sam....

Dennis can't be the cheerleader until you let him have the skirt, sweater and pom-poms. He'll take good care of them, I'm sure.

If that's not a photoshop waiting to happen, I don't know what is.
