Re: 'Star Trek XI' Teaser Official Release
Or are you just another one of the new crop of trollers popping up just to shit on the film and get those who look forward to it riled up?

Re: 'Star Trek XI' Teaser Official Release
I'm taking it for granted that the hyper-MTV style of the trailer isn't reflective of the actual film-- well, I'm keeping my fingers crossed, anyway. ![]() The FX look fine. I'd prefer a more retro approach, but at least the ship interiors are nice and bright, if not colorful, and the uniforms look good; they didn't go with the fashionable factory basement look and leather bondage gear that most things have these days. ![]() My main concern is always the characters and continuity; if the movie is part of everything that has gone before and not a reboot or reimagining or whatever, I'll give it a chance; otherwise it's just another "Heroes Reborn" or Young Sherlock Holmes. But, actually, the more we learn about the story, the more my concerns about these things have been addressed. |

Re: 'Star Trek XI' Teaser Officially Released
Anyway...as someone who has a tough time watching TOS because of the cheesy effects (too hard for me to not want to do a MST3K on it), this has potential to be pretty cool. Now, that does NOT mean I don't appreciate what TOS did, or that I don't appreciate canon. I do--I got it through Treklit, mainly. But I think having something that's more watchable by modern standards is going to help bring other people into the series. People that up until now were so put off by the "camp" image that Trek has to them, that might now be willing to take a risk on it.

Re: 'Star Trek XI' Teaser Official Release
BTW, I'm 50, and for the young 'uns saying "raped my childhood" etc, can't see it. As others have pointed out, thoings like Batman and Bond get reimagined all the time. Yes, the trailer could be a little slower, but it is effective. It's time for 21st Century Trek. The old stuff is sooo 20th Century.

Re: 'Star Trek XI' Teaser Official Release
Plus, fans tend to forget that there's a good chance that if the 24th century shows and Enterprise had never been made, we probably would have gotten this movie, or one like it, back around 1996, or thereabouts, when big screen versions of old TV shows were coming out one after the other. |

Re: 'Star Trek XI' Teaser Official Release
I had a hard time with the Bridge originally; it looked like an Apple store interior but now I think I can warm to it. I do like Apple afterall. Chris Pine needs to hit the Gym and pump some iron. He is not fighting the Gorn with the frame.
