I thought the trailer looked a little slick, and the dialogue sounded mostly ridiculous. I'm already finding it hard to accept that kid as a starship captain, Kirk or not.

There's a cool article about the trailer with a discussion about the problems inherent with Trek:

http://therecshow.com/2008/11/17/why-star-trek-fails/
While the article makes some sound points, I get the distinct impression that the author hasn't seen much of Deep Space Nine.

Yep, I just caught it too. Wow! Definately like the action sequences. Great editing on the trailer. I love the last line from the villan "The wait is over", hahaha, perfect.

STAR TREK... FUCK YA!
I knew it had to be a matter of time before some young nerd would use profane language and ruin the thread...
Young nerd... and how exactly did my profane language "ruin" this thread? What cantina did you just stumble out of to have just joined the board and speak with such assurance about any poster in such a manner?

Or are you just another one of the new crop of trollers popping up just to shit on the film and get those who look forward to it riled up?

No one ever thinks the kid is who they turn out to be... We are a sum of our experiences, can't guesstimate the end before they even shaped the individual.

Re: 'Star Trek XI' Teaser Official Release

The main thing that bothered me about the trailer was the jack-booted, helmeted State Trooper. Not quite in line with the civilized 23rd Century of Star Trek. I'm taking it for granted that the hyper-MTV style of the trailer isn't reflective of the actual film-- well, I'm keeping my fingers crossed, anyway.

The FX look fine. I'd prefer a more retro approach, but at least the ship interiors are nice and bright, if not colorful, and the uniforms look good; they didn't go with the fashionable factory basement look and leather bondage gear that most things have these days.

My main concern is always the characters and continuity; if the movie is part of everything that has gone before and not a reboot or reimagining or whatever, I'll give it a chance; otherwise it's just another "Heroes Reborn" or Young Sherlock Holmes. But, actually, the more we learn about the story, the more my concerns about these things have been addressed.

It looked to me like the State Trooper was a robot.

Why is there a Corvette?
There are such things as antiques.
This may be nuts...but that bit reminds me of Rush's "Red Barchetta." I'm wondering if that was on purpose. If so, pretty nice nod to a really cool song!

Anyway...as someone who has a tough time watching TOS because of the cheesy effects (too hard for me to not want to do a MST3K on it), this has potential to be pretty cool. Now, that does NOT mean I don't appreciate what TOS did, or that I don't appreciate canon. I do--I got it through Treklit, mainly. But I think having something that's more watchable by modern standards is going to help bring other people into the series. People that up until now were so put off by the "camp" image that Trek has to them, that might now be willing to take a risk on it.

I donít know. If Iím riding a high-velocity hovercycle capable of speeds of well over a hundred kph, I think Iíd want as much high-impact armor as possible in case I get sideswiped by some snot-nosed punk kid in a 20th century muscle car.

I LOVED this trailer! Frankly I also didn't know it was for a new Trek movie until after the youngster said his name. It gave me chills and really caught my attention. And the action looks like it's gonna be AWESOME! I might have to just go see this thing when it comes out next May!

That was cool on a stick.

BTW, I'm 50, and for the young 'uns saying "raped my childhood" etc, can't see it. As others have pointed out, thoings like Batman and Bond get reimagined all the time.

Yes, the trailer could be a little slower, but it is effective.

It's time for 21st Century Trek. The old stuff is sooo 20th Century.

Looks like fun, I must say.

I can be as continuity-nitpicky as anyone at times, but for whatever reason this isn't really spiking my angst-o-meter. I'm just curious how it'll turn out.
Me too. Let the old show be the old show and this movie be as is (whatever it is).

Plus, fans tend to forget that there's a good chance that if the 24th century shows and Enterprise had never been made, we probably would have gotten this movie, or one like it, back around 1996, or thereabouts, when big screen versions of old TV shows were coming out one after the other.

Well, overall, I am keeping an open mind and I like it.

I had a hard time with the Bridge originally; it looked like an Apple store interior but now I think I can warm to it. I do like Apple afterall.

Chris Pine needs to hit the Gym and pump some iron. He is not fighting the Gorn with the frame.

I hate Apple interiors. It's like a hospital. I hate hospitals.
But this all has potential.

Even hospitals don't go that white anymore.
