More 'Star Trek XI' Details

More information has emerged about Star Trek XI as those who were privileged to see the twenty-minute preview share their knowledge of the film's events.

As reported by Den of Geek!, a fourth scene of the movie concerns an attempt by Kirk, Sulu and "red-shirt Olson" to stop a Romulan drill from causing a singularity which will engulf Vulcan. Meanwhile, Spock gives Chekov the helm and beams down to Vulcan to save the Vulcan Senate and his parents. He has also given orders to evacuate the planet in the few minutes remaining until it is swallowed up by the singularity.

Meanwhile, TrekMovie has some updates courtesy of a reader who saw the Star Trek XI preview. In the first "bar fight" scene: Uhura was in a red/orange cadet uniform and Kirk was in civilian clothes; Pike urges Kirk to join Starfleet and tells him that he could spend four years in training and have a ship in eight years; Pike mentions Kirk's father, who was lost on the USS Kelvin, but who saved many lives in the short time he was in command.

In the second scene, where McCoy uses trickery to get Kirk aboard the Enterprise: Kirk flirts with a nurse in Sickbay; Kirk goes to Pike to warn him about the "lightning" at Vulcan saying that it is related to the loss of the USS Kelvin and involvement of the Romulans; Uhura is told to man communications because she alone speaks "all three dialects of Romulan;" Chekov has trouble with his voice ID due to his inability to pronounce "Victor," properly.

In the third scene, where Kirk meets both Scotty and elder Spock: they appear to be on the "frozen planet;" Scotty explains that his experimental beaming worked on fruit but "didn't turn out so well for Admiral Archer's beagle;" and in a scene reminiscent of Star Trek: The Voyager Home, Scotty is given his own equation from the future.

TrekMovie also reports that in the fourth scene that: Romulans are much more aggressive than original series or Star Trek: The Next Generation Romulans; Pike leaves Spock in command to go to the Romulan drilling rig with Kirk, Sulu and Olsen; Sulu and a Romulan have a fight scene.

I thought the Romulans had been out of touch with the Federation for a century before "Balance of Terror." Given the whole business about never having seen the face of the enemy, I feel weird about that being put aside.

Poor Porthos indeed. I was hoping a tip of the hat to Enterprise would be something more cheery, like Trip wasn't dead or whatever. Is that asking so much?

Still, all three dialects of Romulan. That's intriguing. I'm started to get stoked!! Bar fights! Nimoy-Spock. Uhura's panties.

Ok let me try to figure this out:

Porthos was seen in "First Flight" while Archer was piloting in the NX Project. So at the very latest, Jon recieved him in 2143. The average Beagle lives 10-15 years. Porthos is still around during 2161 scenes in "TATV" making the dog 19 years old. Granted life spans are extended in the future (i.e. McCoy in "Farpoint"), so I guess that could include dogs too. But to say that Porthos was still around in Scotty's day, nearly a century later would be ludicous! Heck, Archer wouldn't have been around either: he would have been about 153 years old!

We would have to assume that this beaming technique wasn't first attempted by Scotty. If we cautiously use the bio points on Archer barely glimpsed in "In the Mirror Darkly" he retired as Capain in 2161, became Ambassador to Andoria in 2169, serves as Federation Councilor in 2175 and finally becomes Federation President in 2184 until stepping down in 2192. I would assume (and hope) that the unfortunate incident with Porthos occured in 2161 or (very) shortly thereafter.

well, im not to crazy about the spoilers... as for porthos. whos to say that animal cloning isnt banned like human cloning? :P or maybe Porthos is the reason the Trek timeline is all messed up. hes been hoping around peeing on trees.

Or maybe, Archer got another beagle after Porthos died and it is to this beagle that they are referring.

Yeah, but wouldn't Archer be long dead by the time Scotty starts his experiments? He was 40-ish when the NX-01 launched and this movie supposedly takes place about 100 years later, so how does that work?
Well, maybe something weird happened to Archer and Porthos, simirlarly to what happened to Garth Of Izar or the Methusaleh guy and they became immortal or something. It does look like Archer to get really angry at Scotty for killing his dog and making him serve on an ice planet.
