Re: New ST:XI trailer
In fact, I don’t really see how this trailer told us anything new at all. We learn that Spock was a cute kid, the Enterprise interiors are blindingly white and Scotty is an embarrassment. Oh yeah and apparently policemen in the future look really creepy wearing weird insectoid headgear. |

Although Karl Urban sounded like he was still playing Eomer rather than Leonard McCoy. |

Re: New ST:XI trailer
I'm not really sure about this, to be honest. I don't like the stuff with car all that much. Some of the design looks nice. Well, I'll just have to wait and see .

Re: New ST:XI trailer
The trailer is great. It shows us who's in the film, that it is about Star Trek, and showcases some VFX-shots (a lot of them feature the Kelvin). It's fast-paced, energetic and exiting. Perfectly designed to draw lots and lots of people to this film. |

Re: New ST:XI trailer
I'm going to have to disagree with Casino Royale being the "only good Bond film ever made". Of course, one probably needs to be a "fan" to appreciate the ensemble of Bond films, and, certainly, they are not all of equal quality. But (and I'm willing to concede it's likely a "guy thing") there have been some Bond films worthy of the label "good film" (not just "good Bond film"). I would include From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, On Her Majesty's Secret Service (my favourite Bond film, if not my favourite Bond actor--though it probably would not have been as good with Connery as Bond, as heretical as that may seem to Bond fans, for reasons that are best discussed in another thread) and Casino Royale (2006). As for "good Bond films" (even if they don't rise to the level of "good films in general") I would add The Living Daylights, Goldeneye, For Your Eyes Only, The Spy Who Loved Me and Thunderball. Of course, the point of Bond films has never been being "good films" in the sense of the best of Hitchcock or Spielberg (let alone "serious" films in the Bergman or Kirosawa vein). Certainly, for those who are not "Bond fans", I can see why Casino Royale would be considered "the best".In any event, to end my long digression into the world of Bond and return to the upcoming Trek movie, I would say it is quite possible this new film (to the consternation of many fans--even beyond the "pur et dur") will be seen by non-Trek "fans" as the equivalent of Casino Royale for Bond--the "only good Trek movie" (of course, to declare Casino Royale the "only good Bond movie" to Bond fans can provoke similar protests in kind, if not degree, as such a suggestion about Abrams' film would provoke should it be judged as such by "the mainstream"). I, of course, as a fan of each "franchise", and recognizing the inherent limitations of each, appreciate more than just "the best" (though I'm not entirely uncritical--Moonraker is a bad Bond movie and I will not watch The Lights of Zetar (worse in my eyes than even And The Children Shall Lead or Spock's Brain) anymore). Beyond that, as has been confirmed by my spending the past few days hanging around in this particular forum, I'm far more "forgiving" of each as well (meaning I find enjoyment, of varying degrees of intensity, from each iteration of both franchises). I simply don't treat either one as "important, serious art" but as fun, escapist entertainment from which I demand little. I have enough serious demands on my intellect with my work to constantly seek similar challenges in my entertainment. So, in that spirit, I look forward to the new Trek film (as well as the next Bond film). As for the trailer, anyone know if it will be "attached" to other films anytime soon? |
