Major 'Star Trek XI' Details Emerge

Several scenes from Star Trek XI have been described in detail by some of journalists who attended a screening of the movie.

As reported by Den of Geek!, twenty minutes of footage were made available for the four hundred or so journalists who were lucky enough to get a sneak preview of Star Trek XI.

The first scene described is a bar fight scene, in which James T. Kirk is involved. His opponents were defending Uhura from Kirk's "persistent and relentless pestering." Kirk loses the fight, being outnumbered four-to-one, and is rescued by none other than Captain Christopher Pike.

In another scene, it is revealed that after his enrollment in Starfleet, Kirk keeps getting in trouble. This leads to him being left out in the cold when Starship assignments are handed out. His friend Dr. Leonard McCoy concocts a plan to give him a "nasty, but non-lethal virus," so that he can come aboard Pike's Enterprise because "Federation Rule 691" states that a doctor can bring on board any person who he deems in need of treatment. Once Kirk is aboard, he realizes that he has information that can help Captain Pike from making a huge mistake and getting caught in a trap.

In the third scene, Kirk meets Leonard Nimoy's Spock who has come back in time to change the course of history. Kirk has been exiled by Spock, now in command of the Enterprise, to some unnamed location, as has a belligerent Mr. Scott. Scotty has a big scene here and Nimoy helps to solve a current transport problem with a solution from the future. Nimoy-Spock informs Kirk that he needs to get Young Spock's command revoked, and suggests getting Young Spock emotionally off-balance to do so.

Still sounds like a potentially fun movie, but I'm not sure I'm entirely keen on some of the choices on characterisation. Still, kind of hard to judge based purely on this, so I guess we'll see.

I refuse to pass judgment until I have seen the film on May 8th.

Also, since when does James T. Kirk lose a fight when the prize is a beautiful woman? That's Bullshit!

I think this film is going to rock. The more I read the more genuinely excited about I'm becoming.

I'm not too thrilled about what I read, but whatever, I'm not part of the target audience.

Why wouldn't he lose when he's outnumbered 4-1? That's reality.

Some things I like that I've read, some not. Until I see it, I don't know. I'm pretty psyched about the movie and ready to see it though. It's a shame we have to wait until May.

I'm with you..sounds good to me too...different than what we're all use to. But is that the purpose? Shaking up the standard, predictable, trek formula???

A small quibble, but could speak volumes. Kirk said in TOS that he barely knew Pike, and had only met him once, when he had taken command of Enterprise.
