Music and Passion

Other than the usual answers, star wars-superman-star trek-Indiana Jones ect, what other scifi movie/fantasy movies had soundtracks that you liked?

I saw STARGATE two nights ago on BLURAY and I can't get that damn music out of my head...the main title music...very memorable. Thats one I can think of, but there have to be more..Terminator 2 is pretty good two...

However, I never liked the music to Aliens. It is a great movie, but the music sounds like it was lifted from Khan...

For me, the best is Howard Shore's magnum opus: The Lord of the Rings. I bought the originally released soundtrack as well as the Complete Recordings and love every note, every second. If that is not what you were looking for, I thoroughly enjoyed "Princess Bride". It had a neat, whimsical nature to it that supported a sweet story.

I thought the movies, for me, were a bit too long..however, I did like the music. Good pick....

When ever I watch THE ROCK, that damn music they play when Harris and his me bust into that fort with the lethal gas gets stuck in my head for days..

If anyone's interested, there was similar thread in the Trek Literature thread last week. But here are some of my more esoteric favorites:

BLINK (good Irish fiddle playing from an underrated Madeleine Stowe thriller)
THE SEVEN FACES OF DR. LAO--a weird Chinese/western hybrid.
THE SEVENTH VOYAGE OF SINBAD--one of the most rousing scores ever.
THE SHADOW (Jerry Goldsmith!)
YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES
LAWRENCE OF ARABIA
EXODUS (never seen the movie, love the main musical theme)
THE PRIVATE LIFE OF SHERLOCK HOLMES
IN LIKE FLINT
SLEEPY HOLLOW (the Tim Burton version)
THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS
CONAN THE BARBARIAN

I have several of these on DVD..will check them out..thanks for the list Mr. Cox...(I loved Edward Scissorhand's music too, another Burton/Mr. Oingo Boingo collaboration!)

I second In Like Flint- the soundtrack out-Bonds the 60s James Bond movies, musically. I always liked the soundtrack from 2001. I thought it was iconic the way it meshed with the visuals. Also, Burton's Batman with Prince is pretty memorable.

There have been many, many great scores. Some that come to mind (not all SFF):

Danny Efman's Batman and Batman Returns
Michael Nyman's Gattaca and The End of the Affair
David Newman's Hoffa
Ennio Morricone's Once Upon a Time in America, The Mission and The Untouchables (among many others)
Philip Glass's Kundun
Elliot Goldenthal's Titus
Carter Burwell's Miller's Crossing

One of the more revolutionary (and evolutionary) movie scores of all time, Jerry Goldsmith's Planet of the Apes (original version).

He did things and created & enhanced moods in a way never really done before.

And I echo Greg's choice of Mask of Zorro.
