Pine On Prepping To Be Kirk

Chris Pine felt the weight of responsibility of playing James T. Kirk but did something about it.

As reported by Variety, playing Kirk meant studying Star Trek encyclopedias and watching the original series. But in cramming to play the Captain of the Enterprise, Pine realized he was overdoing it. "All I was doing was heaping upon myself an incredible amount of responsibility, weighing myself down with 'You must remember to act this way' and such," he said.

So Pine decided to go in a different direction. "That's when I was really able to let go and accept the parameters that J.J. set forth in the beginning, which was to bring what was special and unique about us to the roles," said Pine.

And just what did it mean to be Kirk? "Just try to be human," said Pine. "I got to do everything: yell, shout, cry, laugh, take charge and be vulnerable. I pulled the lucky straw."

Good short interview. The guy sounds like he's got it.

Can't wait to see the first trailer on November 14th.

That's probably the only way you could do this role. Learn all you could about the character and then forget everything and play him the best way you can.

Sounds like the correct answer, but he forgot the important part about ripping his shirt.

He ripped them all. He's only got the black one left.

If he has any shirts left, he is obviously a neophyte at shirt-ripping! Hopefully subsequent movies will address this character important arc.
