Friday the 13th the series

They showed a couple of these today. Jack Marshak and this big haired redhead along with her cousin(by marriage only, so they can romance each other if they want) track down antiques made by the devil. Usually the person has to kill somebody and then the item has some sort of benefit, like a wood chipper that spits out money when you kill somebody and feed them in.

The show is hilarious in parts and I don't even know if it is intentional. All the old Vancouver actors show up. I didn't even really realize I had seen them before. I guess that was before every show was a Vancouver show and I had seen the same actors a thousand times. The crazy guy working the wood chipper was the leader of the Thermians in Galaxy Quest, but he was young(still bald though). Apparently he has made an entire career of playing crazy weirdos. He was in the fountain of youth episode of Stargate. Micki's(The big hair redhead) boyfriend recently played the pilot of Colonial One on BSG.

The redhead is often hilarious. She is the one that really makes me feel like I'm watching a comedy whenever she speaks. One of the episodes featured a demon midget lady running around with Louis Vendradei. The Redhead runs from her at one point and I'm just thinking how far the midget lady might fly if Micki turned around and kicked her like a football.

I remember wanting to bone the redhead back in the 80's or whatever when the show came out. I always thought the show was pretty disposable though.

yeah, I have been watching it on Chiller, along with Tales From The Dark Side (which featured a young Seth Green circa 1984)

Re: Friday the 13th the series

I remember watching it back in the 80s and really enjoying it, so when it was on FX or something recently we dvd-r'd them to watch. We managed about half a dozen before giving it up as a bad job. I remembered the episode with the de-aging cup to be quite good. It was pretty dire when I caught it again 20 years later. I was waiting for Quilt of Hathor to turn up as I'd remembered that as being a very good two parter. Glad I didn't catch it this time around. I think I prefer to remember it fondly rather than to catch it again and realise it's also rubibish!

Re: Friday the 13th the series

They are showing another marathon today and I have it on while I do work around the house. I think the opening titles where the camera pans throught the room of various curios with the odd thing happening almost out of the shot is pretty cool. I'ts great campy fun.

This show and War of The Worlds: The series premiered around the same time as TNG. I used to watch all three in college on my little portable TV when I had nothing better to do. I didn't hate it, but I was always wondering what the hell any of it had to do with Jason. (Yep, I was a leetle slow.)

I liked the big-haired red head, but I developed bigger crush on this ice-queen blond that figured prominently in one of the later episodes.

Ohhh, Evil Greta. Did you notice when she asked Uncle Louis 'If you had a choice, would you rather be a man or a woman?' and it just goes nowhere. And what the hell's up with the part when she dies? She trips over a bucket and impales herself on a broken chair? They don't make it very clear.

We just got the first season on DVD and I must say that unintentionally funny or not it's awesome. And do you guys realize that Ryan and Micki are cousins (albeit by marriage) and they still play it for sexual tension? In one episode he actually gets jealous of one of her old boyfriends. And crazy old Jack is always wandering off to get stoned leaving them to do the 'work.' Consult some tarot reader, my ass. Did anyone else know that the crazy redhead, Louise Robey or simply 'Robey' as she was once known made popular a dance version of the song 'One Night in Bangkok' before the regular version became popular? Youtube it, seriously.

'Scarecrow' and 'Vanity's Mirror' are probably the best episodes of Season One. 'Helloween' is probably next runner up if only for Evil Greta. The 'ugly girl' in 'Vanity's Mirror' is just nightmarish.

Re: Friday the 13th the series

I like the opening bit with the weird antiques moving. I recorded more episodes today. I'm hoping to watch with new eyes. I'll actually recognize the actors. When I was younger I didn't know who any of those people were. I really want to watch the episode with La Croix from Forever Night as the immortal Nazi dude-"You can't hide Marshak! I have a thousand years to find you!"

That whole midget episode was funny with her bizarre question about being a man or a woman and I felt like I missed something when she is suddenly impaled. I notice that Toon Disney cuts both for time and content and I'm just talking about Superman the animated series and The Fantastic Four. So I'm thinking Scifi got out the old meat ax and took it to Friday the 13th the series, chopping to make room for commercials since I think there were less commercials back then. I don't know if there is anything they censor.

I was of a similar mind. She was the main reason I ever watched the show at all.

Well, unless they censored/edited the DVD version (maybe they used old TV masters?) it doesn't really seem much clearer on the DVDs.

Re: Friday the 13th the series

^Thanks! Trivia for everyone: they were originally going to call the show 'The 13th Hour' until the producer, Mancuso, who was also a producer of Friday the 13th films, felt that calling it 'Friday the 13th: The Series' would increase viewership. The rumors of a planned episode featuring Jason's mask are apparently just rumors. I like to think that Uncle Lewis's bad day happened on Friday the 13th.

I watched all three together, too! I was in junior high and just got totally hooked on WoTW and Friday the 13th the series.

I admit it--I got the first season on DVD. I really loved this show when it was on. I watched the first episode the weekend before this past one, and, well, I forgot how cheesy the show was and how over-the-top Micki was as a character. But I love it! I think the concept is pretty cool, and yes, it's 80s cheese, but in a good way.

Oh cool! Thanks for mentioning that. I always thought it was a pretty unique name; I didn't realize it had a tie-in with the show's name.
