I've become almost totally reliant upon mine. As I mentioned in my first post of the evening, I spent 4 hours today wandering around the city, listening to Sigur Ros with my glasses off.

Yeah, see, I buy all my cds then put them on my ipod. I am way too cheap for that many songs

At the moment I'm also happy with my CD player, triple J (the best radio station in Australia) and the songs I have on my PC.

Part of it's being on the go without a car. It's nice to have every album and song I own on a little beast the size of a deck of cards in my pocket. Sometimes the train stops and doesn't start again for 25 minutes, sometimes the doctor doesn't see you until an hour after your scheduled appointment time, sometimes you get the urge to go on a spontaneous 40 mile bike ride. I carry a book and my ipod at all times for such emergencies.

Hey now! I just can't fathom limiting myself to just a couple of genres, or to just a few bands. I have over 700 different artists on my ipod, in a multitude of genres and I still feel like I'm missing out on so much!
Just 700? While I haven't a clue as to the number of artists, I know I have well over 5,000 albums in my collection ranging from John Coltrane, Son House, Hank Williams, Journey (The Old stuff.), See-Saw, Jay-Z, and Sergei Rachmanioff (Performed by various people.) The covers just about everything.

If there's one thing that really bugs me it's people with a myopic scope of music.

The thing about music is, it's pretty universal. And sure, tastes vary, but sometimes I get the impression that people don't appreciate some flavors of music just because it's not playing on the band-wagon's radio.

When I was in college, every students' computer had to be hooked up to the school's network. It was not very secure, so it was quite simple to hack the network and access every students' hard drive.

It was a great way to, um, acquire new music.

That's 700 artists, at, let's estimate, 6 albums per (more for some, less for others), that's 4,200 albums. Nothing to be ashamed of.

Re: The Night Crew

Well, some artists have a lot more than six.

Hell, I have 38 Pink Floyd albums. (That's a lot of bootlegs.)
