Re: 'Star Trek: The Experience's' Last Days

I will be there Sunday, the penultimate day, and Monday, the final day. I will probably ride and drink on Sunday and simply lock down my place at Quark's at opening on Monday and remain there (in the Morn seat, if I can get it) until they force me to leave. I will then attend the closing ceremony (this is assuming I don't luck into a "final mission" pass while I'm there) and applaud like a freaking Starfleet-uniformed maniac at the closing ceremony.

I love that place, I love those people, and I can't wait to pay final homage to them as Star Trek: The Experience comes to an end. Never before and never again will there be such a place. Never before and never again will I ever have so much fun in my life. ACTORS, BOTH INSIDE THE EXPERIENCE RIDES AND OUTSIDE ON THE PROMENADE AND AT THE BAR, YOU FUCKING ROCKED!!! You made it REAL! No one has ever been part of Star Trek as long or as much as you have, and you are as "canon" to me as anything I ever saw on TV. God bless you people.

I will toast you people until Darren tells me I have to pay up and get out. I will applaud you people until Hilton security tells me to get the hell out of their casino. I will remember you people...

...FOREVER, until I die.

PS: This is SO a drunkl thread. Nonetheless, it's entirely sincere. Thanks for everything. [/quote]

OK. I just want to make this clear. The board for some reason posted incomplete versions of my post over and over and now does not recognize me as the author and will not let me delete them.

I am drunkl posting, but still, I'm not THIS retarded.

Sure, I can delete the copies. But I have a sneaky suspicion that it's partially caused by drunk clicking.

Of that I have no doubt. Still, you are a god among men. Thanks.

Re: 'Star Trek: The Experience's' Last Days

My friend and I made our last visit to the Experience over the weekend. It brought back memories of our first visit, at the grand opening "Warp-n-ride" fan appreciation event. What a bittersweet symmetry.

We did the rides on Friday, and took buttloads of pictures in the museum. That was my first time seeing Borg Invasion 4D, my most recent previous visit to the Experience having been in 2003. I enjoyed it, but it pales in comparison to the original Klingon Encounter. I still love that one to pieces.

Beverly Washburn was there outside Quark's, signing autographs. She played Lt. Galway in TOS:"The Deadly Years". What a sweet lady. And a nice unexpected surprise.

The shops were all curtained, except for the Admiral's Collection. And they didn't have much beyond borgified teddy bears, calendars, glasses, phaser water pistols, action figures and pins. I picked up three pins (TNG, Voyager, and TNG-future communicators), a trio of shot glasses with the command, medical and science logos from TOS on them, a 2009 Ships of the Line calendar, and a phaser water pistol. I also got a commemorative drinking glass with the opening and closing dates of the Experience on it.

Then we had dinner at Quark's and shared a Borg Sphere and a 5-ouncer James Tea Kirk.

We tried to get the Back Stage Tour on Friday, but they were booked. So we returned on Saturday for it. Our tour guide Jerad was absolutely fantastic. It was his last BST ever, and you could tell it was tough on him. Hell, it was tough on me and I'm an "outsider". Jerad plays the Ferengi Quon (sp?) in the Experience. I'm sad that we didn't get to see him in character.

After the BST, we went back to Quark's and shared a final Warp Core Breach. The place was so busy, when I ordered food, the bartender said the kitchen is running about 40 minutes behind, which was about how long it would take to down the Breach, so it didn't matter. We chatted with two groups of fellow fans who sat next to us, and drank a toast to the Experience. After about an hour, I finally asked about the food and the bartender said, "Food?" The guy never placed the order! I left the place furious and especially pissed off that that would be my last memory of the place.

Since then, a cooler head has prevailed and I know my lasting memory of the Experience will be Jerad's back stage tour, and the obvious passion he had for the place and how much he seemed to love being a part of it.

Does anyone know if the Decommissioning Ceremony is going to be recorded? Possibly put on Youtube or the Experience website? I would really love to see it, although it'll probably make me cry.

I wish they would make a DVD of the ride videos or something, they were so cool.

I'd like a commemorative DVD set with all of the above, including a documentary walk-through of the museum.

A couple of weeks back I asked Chad if they were going to have a crew come in and do some kind of "Final" video shoot on either the closing or at the very least, a memorial walk-through, to be released on DVD. He said no one had even thought of doing something like that and he personally liked the idea. He was going to bring it up to the people above him.

I’d love to have seen the entire site covered in detail but to have done it justice, a project like that should have been started at the moment the closing announcement was made. Now that the shops are all but gone and overall it’s starting to look thinned out, it just wouldn’t be the same.

I’ve personally shot a couple of hours of HD footage there over the last two years but to do it right I would have wanted to bring in a bigger camera, a steadycam, and some additional lighting. That of course brings up all kinds of issues with the various partner/owners and rights-management. Down the road I will cut together some of what I have shot and release it on YouTube.

For now anyway, it looks like we’ll just have to be happy with the "Extras" STTE DVD that was bundled with the Voyager Season 1 DVD set.

I hope something comes of that! I'm glad you mentioned it to him.

And yeah, I'm so glad I got that bonus DVD with the Voyager Season 1 set.

Re: 'Star Trek: The Experience's' Last Days

I'll be at Star Trek: The Experience for the final two days. On Sunday I'll probably be in a regular, dark-colored, short-sleeved shirt with a bar of gold-pressed latinum on a chain around my neck. On Monday I'll be in a TNG series command uniform with commander's pips. I'm 43, about 5'11", a bit of grey hair, and my name really is Dale. If you're there and you spot me, come on over and introduce yourself. We'll toast the glory that was Star Trek: The Experience! I'll probably be in Quark's most of Sunday and all day Monday 'til they finally kick us out!

DALE--
will you take lots of pictures? And you have to tell us all about it.

Will you be at the Decommissioning Ceremony? I would love to see it, but I can't be there.

And tell those Hilton idiots that they've just lost a big part of their clientele.
