Laurence Fishburne joins CSI cast

well both Miami & NY have survived cast changes before, and I would say Grissmon is less of a lead than Horatio, Warrick not being around wont help matters but Catherine is still around, so I think the show is good for at least another two seasons.

That said I didnt really like the guy they bought in to replace Grissmon last time (when he went on stage)

But Miami didn't replace Caruso and NY didn't replace Sinise. Granted, Petersen isn't the main selling point/star like Sinise, who gets his name before the title, but he's still the show's topper.

Grissom's involvement has been decreasing over the last few seasons. I feel like there have been quite a few episodes where he was in his office most of the time, or just running one test here or there. I do think the show can survive without him--the episodes with Liev Schrieber the season before last did okay in the ratings. I could be wrong, though, and let's face it--the show is going into it's ninth season. It's not going to last forever, though I have to say, it's still the number two drama or something like that (Desperate Housewives edged it out this past season), which is pretty impressive.

I don't watch this CSI, but since it's a formula, episodic-driven show, I don't think you have to worry about madmen in tanks attacking the lab or helicopters falling down on people to get them off the show.

Top41 Im pretty sure this show will go 10 years, and after that anything extra is just a bonus, not many shows run 10 years these days, X Files only went 9, so possibly just L&O & ER, and I honestly wouldn't blame any of the actors for wanting to move on to something new.

I really like the sound of this, even though CSI is clearly past it's sell-by-date and I don't want it to wilt away like the "zombie" ER, Simpsons and L&O (who are all grinding on years past their shelf lives). At least bow out like TNG, DS9, and VOY did, but instead around S9/10 (and while The X-Files may have ended before it hit the big ONE-OH, but it was still getting progressively worse and moribund as a series).

I don't think CSI has reached that state yet, though. I'd argue that the seventh season was one of their best, if not their best. Season eight was good as well--the episodes focusing on Warrick were particularly good. Injecting fresh blood into the show--especially via a character with an interesting backstory like Fishburne's seems to have--can really help a show. Nothing lasts forever, but I don't think CSI is done yet. At this point, I'd guestimate a 12 year run. Beyond that, yeah, it might get stale.

yep providing this cast change works out well, and characters like Nick or Catherine stick with it for a few more years, it could go on possibly another 5 years.

I don't see why it can't last for nearly as long as Law and Order. As long as the cast changes work as well for CSI as they have for L&O.

Oh don't get me wrong I really loved Season Seven, clearly the best and must see out of the later seasons of CSI, but I was not so enamoured with Seasons Six and Eight, even if many of the episodes were watchable and a minority of them were outstanding (but we also had stinkers like "Two and a Half Deaths"). I still think the "Golden Age" of CSI was in it's first three seasons and I want the show to end when it is still good, not outstaying it's welcome like The Simpsons.
