Re: Top 20 - Bands
Pretty close behind.... The White Stripes Rage Against The Machine And the rest... Pink Floyd Midnight Oil Radiohead Blur Audioslave Led Zeppelin Pearl Jam Pulp The Doors Oasis Cold Chisel Small list it seems, but bands just kinda make me think rock outfits I guess, not individual artists or other genre acts. Whatever, it doesn't really matter because my Top 3 is up there and that's all that counts to me these days! |

Re: Top 20 - Bands
The Offspring - Been listening to thier new album a lot lately. Very good comeback. Linkin Park Green Day Credence Clearwater Revival The Beatles Rolling Stones Metallica Lostprophets Foo Fighters The Who Queen Guns N' Roses Seether Godsmack System of a Down (And I've heard a song from the spin off group Scars on Broadway which I liked) I don't know, I'm really getting into the hard rock alternative stuff that you'd here on Octane or The Sqizz if you have Sirius or XM (respectively). Ranking current bands is tough since it depends on the music. For example, I've heard some of Saliva's stuff as well as stuff from Trapt, but I don't know the longevity of those bands nor have I heard more stuff from them. I also listen to country but in terms of bands, there aren't that many. Mostly of them are solo artists. I'm looking to fill my Itunes library with more hard rock (Too much pop and country and indie artists that I'm starting not to like such as a Seattle Group called Long Winters) stuff so if anyone has any suggestions, I'm listening.

Re: Top 20 - Bands
(The End) (Really, I mostly listen to film scores and jazz artists... I have a White Stripes album, and a few other CDs, but none that I could immediately list as my "favorite").

1. Gary Numan 2. Jean Michel Jarre 3. Sparks 4. Def Leppard 5. Queen Then in no particular order: T'Pau Abba New Order The Human League Rush Depeche Mode Roxette Clannad The Stranglers XTC Blondie Bon Jovi O.M.D Marillion Icehouse. Quite a few missed the cut, but when you've got 830+ albums to go at, there had to be the odd absentee..... GM |

Re: Top 20 - Bands
tomalak301, based on the rest of your list, I'd encourage you to take the man's advice. I know I certainly am glad I did. I started listening to them about what? 5 or 6 months ago, Dave? And with the possible exception of the time about 6 1/2 years ago when someone told me told me to give Babylon 5 a try, this is the most valued piece of advice I've ever received on this board.Still mystifies me why these guys are so huge in Canada but they've never made it down here. IMO, they are all kinds of awesome. My list: Top 5: 1. Bruce Springsteen 2. Pearl Jam 3. Bon Jovi 4. The Tragically Hip 5. U2 Others include (in no particular order): Queen, Journey, Fuel, REM, Alanis Morissette, The Goo Goo Dolls, Matchbox 20, The Beatles, The Eagles, Janis Joplin, Green Day, Nirvana, The Police, The Counting Crows, Prince, The Sam Roberts Band, Soundgarden, 3 Doors Down. And even though they're just a baby band at this point, I do like Daughtry.

Re: Top 20 - Bands
There is no doubt, Emily Haines carries the whole band. Metric always seems a little off to me (not performance-wise), sometimes cheesy, but I like their style. |

The Who Led Zeppelin Queen Dream Theater Rush Yes Pink Floyd Black Sabbath Iron Maiden Metallica Radiohead Porcupine Tree Judas Priest Opeth Soundgarden Nirvana Rage Against the Machine That's probably more than twenty. Oh well. There's plenty of other bands besides those that I like.

Re: Top 20 - Bands
And if you are actually interested, tomalak, I can recommend a few songs to you.
Another great artist out of the Canadian indie scene, though not necessarily connected to that Montreal scene are Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, who play sort of country-rock, much in the spirit of The Band. The Rheostatics are another great band, though probably a little too experimental for some, but personally I think they're one of the five best Canadian bands of the last twenty years.
