'Star Trek' Season Three Remastered DVDs

The third and final season of Star Trek Remastered will appear in stores in November.

As reported by TV Shows on DVD, CBS/Paramount has announced the release date of the final season of the remastered original series DVD set.

The seven-disc set will be available on November 18th. It will include all twenty-three Season Three episodes, plus "collectible data cards." Other bonus features will be included but there is no word yet on what these bonus features might be.

The video is listed as full frame (1.33:1), and audio is available in English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround, Spanish mono and French mono.

What's holding up the Blu-Ray versions, anyway? I hope it's something other than they're bitter at Blu-Ray for winning the war over HD-DVD.

Are you going to hold out for the Blu-Ray (like Babaganoosh above) or give the whole deal a pass?

I'd consider the Blu-Ray after the obligatory waiting for a price drop, but why would anyone bother with the regular DVD release? All that work to rescan the film, clean it up, add new effects and release it in HD, then downres it to 480p??? What's the point?

CBS seems to be attempting to salvage what was going to be hybrid DVD/HD-DVD releases as they did with the Season 1 Remastered set. A Blu-Ray release will happen. In fact the films are getting the remaster treatment and there's been talk of 2009 releases for those. It's just a matter of when.

Cripes. How many times will I buy the third season in different formats? I might pass up on this one and wait for the next.
