They want the maximum audience for their expensive coverage. They apparently don't care that watching it taped takes away a lot of the impact or that not everyone can watch in prime time.
So why not just air it again at that time?

LOL, I think its a neat idea actually, going by the number of strokes it takes in Chinese to represent the first letter of the countries name.

And wow Canada had a great outfit, even the two wearing turbins had a white and red turbin, that was cool.

Excellent question!

Maybe you should ask your cable/satellite provider to carry Canadian channels? It's on CBC right now and looking pretty good. Sadly, I have to go to work in a few minutes.
NBC has an iron-clad contract with the Olympic games that restricts all Olympic coverage in the US to them. You can't even legally stream video to the US of the Olympic games.
Does this mean that the Olympic website's online coverage won't be available here in the states?!?!

Saw Australia march as one of last countries. Missed a lot of the ceremony, as I was sleeping.

More than likely, but NBC has its own online coverage of pretty much everything. I'd bet dollars to donuts that most of the video will be the same as the Olympic website.

Re: XXIX Olympic games coverage

^^That's good... I was a hair's bredth from being a little pissed. For those who've watched online before, are the videos available after they are first streamed, or do you have to watch them live? Like I said above, I really want to watch the women's individual archery, but almost everything is 2am-4am in the middle of a big job training week.

I hate NBC and their time-delayed, over-produced, warm & fuzzy, US-centric coverage.
I think that has been the case for a long time. When I was growing up, I was under the mistaken impression that NBC (or whichever network was doing the coverage) hosted the Olympics and everything revolved around the U.S. athletes.

This is the first time that they've streamed the Olympics online like this; NBC only had highlight videos in 2004 and limited event coverage in 2006.

Their FAQ says this:
Q: How long is the video content available on the site?
All video content will be available for on-demand viewing until 12/31/2008
MSNBC's online content and longevity is excellent, but YMMV on how long this will stay up.

I've thought about going up to the Canadian border to see the CBC Olympics coverage but it just isn't practical for two weeks.
Try http://www.cbc.ca/olympics/livevideo/ You can adjust the schedule for your own time zone.

I saw them live on CBC. The Canadian athletes got a nice reception from the crowd.

I tried your link but it doesn't work for me. They can id your country from your IP address and I don't think they are allowed to stream to the US.

Maybe someone else from the US can confirm or deny this?
