Not all visuals are created equal. The more time-consuming ones they do first, maybe. Like actually building the artificial environments and figuring out how to do certain things.

Could be. I still see no point in trying to finish them for a December release when they don't really need to be completed until early April, I would think.

Then again, I'm sure that Paramount isn't the least bit interested in my opinion.

"Finished" apparently means, well, finished - that is, quite a number of the effects exist in various stages of completion and have been cut into the movie as temps.
