Genre Hunk of the Week 7/29/08: Lee Pace

By request, this week's hunk is Lee Pace, who is best known as Ned the Pie-maker on TV's hit fantasy, "Pushing Daisies." Pace has also appeared as the overly-spiritual brother on "Wonderfalls," and will appear in the upcoming remake of the horror/thriller, The Possession.

Though he was born in Oklahoma, Lee spent his early years living in the Middle East. His family eventually moved back to the States, first to New Orleans and later, Houston, Texas. Lee attended high school in Houston, where he first began acting. He got so involved with his craft that he actually dropped out of high school to perform at the local Alley Theatre. Once he completed his final high school courses, Lee was accepted to The Juilliard School's Drama Division in 1997. (imdb)

In 2003, Lee Pace starred in the Sundance hit, Soldier's Girl (2003) (TV), a telefilm created for Showtime. The film was based on the true story of a transgendered nightclub performer in love with a soldier who is brutally murdered for their relationship. His breakthrough performance garnered him nominations for both the Golden Globes and the Independent Spirit Award, and he won a Gotham Award for Outstanding Breakthrough Performance.

His film credits include the fantasy-drama The Fall, The Good Shepherd, Infamous and the romantic comedy, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day.

He was featured as #14 in Entertainment Weekly Magazine's best "30 Under 30" list of actors.

But is he a hunk? You be the judge.

Marginal Thumbs Up. He's average looking, but he's got panache.

I don't know that I'd call him a hunk, but he definitely has je ne sais quoi. Thumbs up.

Frankly, I think I like Emerson better.

But then, I'm sick that way.

I love how the reactions in these threads are all over the map.

Yeah, I know what you mean. There's a could-be-a-serial-killer vibe to him.

I love how the average thumbs up score in these threads are like 40 points lower than the same average in the genre babes threads.

Though the sample size is small but it really shows the difference between men and women in a very prominent way.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

Men fall in love with the person they find attractive, while women find attractive the person they happen to love.

I'll try to come up with more sweeping generalizations later.

Also, some people should pay closer attention to the scores in the Babe threads.

Girls are harder to please, plus the types of "hunks" featured in these polls range far more widely in actual sexiness and include some weird options - Lee Pace is far from being the most unusual. The Hunk threads are much more interesting as a result.

Hey have we done Jim Caveziel?
Also, some people should pay closer attention to the scores in the Babe threads.
You're right, the point spread really isn't all that different, is it? But the Hunks selected are far more interestingly varied than the Babes.

The problem with that is, none of us have ever MET the hunks in question so it's hard to argue that we're doing anything but going off looks & talent.
