Karl Urban Shows Off Original Series Knowledge

Karl Urban (Leonard 'Bones' McCoy) recently demonstrated he's well-versed in original Star Trek lore.

When asked by SFX Magazine for his favorite Trek episodes, Urban answered, "The Corbomite Maneuver. It has a great McGuffin. And Amok Time. It's about the relationship between Kirk, Spock and McCoy, you get to see some of the Vulcan culture and I like how Bones saves the day."

In the new Trek film, Urban will be taking on the role originated by DeForest Kelley. He told SFX what things he liked about McCoy's character: "His sense of irascibility with real passion for life and doing the right thing. Spock’s logic and McCoy’s moral standing gave Kirk the benefit of having three brains instead of just one."

The full interview with Urban can be found in the new issue of SFX Magazine, available now in the United Kingdom. Alternatively, a few more excerpts can be found at the Sci-Fi Pulse.

Meanwhile, Paramount has updated its official release date list for the film, indicating the film will be released almost everwhere around the world somewhere between the 6th and the 8th of May, 2009. For the full list, please follow this link.

The 8th of May, 2009 falls on a Friday, so let's go with that.

Sounds good to me too.

I'm planning on taking that day off and going to catch the first showing that morning. That way, if the movie turns out to be as incredible as I'm hoping it will be, then my wife and I will go to an evening show as soon as she gets off work.

If it turns out to be not what I'd hoped for, then I'll probably spare her having to sit through it.

But I'd still be happier if we were getting the movie this December. Damn Paramount!

I'm hoping for maybe a midnight showing. Possibly not, but I guess it depends on the hype for the movie.

Midnight doesn't work for me, I want to be able to stay awake for it!

That's why you take a nap before hand.

He can show off whatever the hell he wants, IMO.
