Re: The Dark Knight Megathread (USE THIS! Love, the mods)

I just got back from seeing it at IMAX

It is a long film. It feels like two films shown back-to-back. AND I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT.

this will be a quick, spoiler-free look at the film.

firstly, I want you to know that I am a HUGE Batman fan, I own at least a dozen Batman trades, I have a framed copy of Detective Comics framed and hanging on my wall, I own many Batman DVDs (including BB and the animated series and movies), and I wore my Batman T-shirt to the movies (yes, I'm nerd...but so are you...)

that being said, THIS IS THE BEST BATMAN FILM EVER MADE (animated or live action). In fact, THIS IS THE BEST SUPERHERO FILM EVER MADE. Superman who??? BB was a good attempt at a Batman film, TDK is a note-perfect Batman film - straight from the comic pages to the silver screen!

We finally get to see the real Joker on screen. I believed in Harvey Dent (and had a tear in my eye for his fate).

The IMAX experience was just that, an experience. YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS FILM ON IMAX! I don't know how I will be able to watch it again on a normal sized cinema screen, or heaven forbid, a TV screen.

The Joker was perfect. perfect. perfect.

very minor spoiler - the rumours that we've heard about who the villian in the third film might not be true!

Anyway, enjoy the film. let the gushing begin!

Mother not allowing her son to see "The Dark Knight" in Australia

A mother with an eight-year old child decides to take her son to see a movie. Kung Fu Panda? Nope. How about Get Smart? Forget it. This mum decides that The Dark Knight is appropriate. Doesn't matter that the film has an M rating, there's Batman Lego, and kids play with Lego! Infallible logic there.

It's a true story, according to an article by Alison Stephenson on News.com.au. Here's a quote from the mum in question:

"I'm horrified, this movie is rated M and I almost feel it's heavier than an R rated film. I had to cover his eyes and talk to him throughout to cover some of the dialogue.

"I mean these companies market Lego products to children like my son. This movie should definitely be rated higher. We're going to go and get some sunshine and go somewhere happier!"

I'm not sure what the mother was expecting - an M rated movie is hardly appropriate for an eight-year old - but what is apparent is that her understanding of classification symbols is vague at best. Shame there's no government initiative designed to educate her, isn't it?

^ A government initiative to educate stupid people on the ratings system? How pathetic would such a suggestion even be? How "M" does she think her 8-year-old is?

Just another reason I'm glad the Swedish ratings board decided to go with a 15 rating for it. Woohoo no whiney kids!

I remember that the FCC recommended that the US Government authorize them to do just that a few years ago (but that was for the TV Rating System).
