Farscape reference in Demons of Air?

I remember "This is Captain Monaghan of the Mars freighter Halloran" offhand, because Marjorie Monaghan played Tessa Holloran of the Mars resistance in Babylon 5. But I just came across a review that ended "For an extra bit of fun, try to find the Farscape references DeCandido slipped in to the story...you'll know them when you see them."

It's got my curiosity up, and I don't want to reread it *just* to find the reference. Is this the one where someone is a fan of the Dominars or something? <fuzzy memory>

Edit: Is there an all-on-one-page list of Star Trek fiction books anywhere? All I've found have a separate page for each series.

^ Nope, that's not it. I wrote Demons of Air and Darkness immediately after finishing my Farscape novel House of Cards, so I had 'Scape on the brain. But the reference is subtle...

Hmmm...I'm ashamed to admit that I missed it and I'm a huge Scaper (Farscape is the second greatest science-fiction ever in my mind).

Just like you seemed to have had Firefly on the brain while writing the 3rd Gorkon book, after writing the Serenity adaptation (Mal Rennols, Gorram Grasslands).

Wow, I never realized how many hidden non-Trek references there were in the books. Sadly I don't think I've ever actually picked up any of them myself, unless of course they've already been pointed out to me.

I'm not sure what it takes, because I've caught a few, but the Hynerian and Mal Rennols refs flew by me when I was reading them. And KRAD implies another Farscape ref in Demons of... *flips through book*

Ones I remember offhand: I was tickled by the "you don't know how to use the intercom" West Wing exchange in Articles of the Federation, the reveal of Ripley's aliens in Mission Gamma: Cathedral, and Xev Chiana (Lexx and Farscape!) in Genesis Wave.

Someone pointed out a Dr Who reference in Ishmael and one of Diane Duane's early Trek books.

Exactly how it should be. Includes non-joke textures too. It enhances the reading pleasure of those who make the connection, but it's enjoyable and understandable to all.

See I didn't even get the Exomorph one until someone pointed that out to me, and that one was pretty obvious once I realize what it was. I just remembered that I did get Huilan right off the bad, but that's the only one the immediately comes to mind, although there probably have been a few others I got as quickly. For me I can usually pick out the influence of names and such fairly quickly, it's just the descriptions of people and things that I don't usually pick up.

Isn't Ishmael the one with all of the cameo appearances by characters from other series, and franchises?

Keith does like to use "frell" a lot. Unrelated, but there's also a Doctor Who reference in the first Vanguard book.
