The touch down screen is definitely NYC.

Looks more like Sydney.
Looked to me like the temple illustration from the book of Pythia.

Which makes this even more confusing!

So if the constellations "match" what they'd look like from Earth, say within 1,000 yrs from now, then we are somewhere around the years 2300 - 7000 AD?

Would mean we couldn't be in the past since the stars would have moved. . . and the 13th tribe who left Kobol 4,000 years ago would have gotten here @ 2000 BC - 3000 AD?

I think. . .

It doesn't really tell us anything. The projection they got them from may or may not have been ajusted for current time. Its also a fairly constant rate of change, and it would depend on how accurate their measurement/comparison was.

"Sometimes a Great Notion" has just aired and I really liked what the episode delivered concerning the whole Earth mythology. Those flashes into the past were nice little touches too. I hope they flesh everything out in a satisfactory way.

Yes, it looked like modern day Earth to me in the flashbacks.

But so does Caprica

Re: Earth

So does this latest episode kill all possibility that BSG's Earth is the homeworld and that Kobol is a colony of it? It would seem so, assuming that bit about Earth's population all being Cylons was on the level.

Damn. I would have preferred it that way.

Maybe Earth had its own Cylon rebellion.
I've entertained a similar thought.

As have I. After all, all this has happened before and will happen again.

Gosh, I hope though that it's some other city than NYC. It's been done to death. Hell, maybe it's San Francisco and that's the Bay Bridge or it's some yet unseen city that we've yet to build. Better yet, maybe it's some city on some Earth that isn't ours.

I hope that RDM and DE break out of the box and make it something other than NYC.

Post-apocalyptic NYC. Been there. Done that.
Maybe it's in Florida

Or maybe this is nubsg's version of Terra, except this time the planet did nuke itself.

Re: Earth

Since Colonial culture looks so much like what we saw of Earth, I wonder if the final five had some influence over colonial development.

I think they really missed an opportunity by not having the Earth populated by telepathic mutants like in Beneath the Planet of the Apes.

Re: Earth

That bit with Tigh in the water, the ruins to the right edge of the screen looked vaguely like the base of the Statue of Liberty. I thought Tigh was going to find Damn Dirty Apes(tm).
