'Star Trek XI' Honors Original Star Trek Says Quinto

Making Star Trek XI was done with "real heart and real respect" according to the actor playing the young Spock.

As reported by Scifi.com, care was taken to make Star Trek XI respectful of the original series. "It was done with real heart and real respect and a real effort to honor the origins of this franchise, while at the same time sort of re-imagining those origins," said Quinto. "People have been enormously supportive of me playing this role and of our making this movie. We're all really excited about it."

At the same time, it was necessary to make Star Trek XI a good movie, one that fans and new viewers alike would enjoy. "I feel strongly that we've done really good work as a group, as a cast, as a crew," said Quinto. "And I don't really feel like any of us can or do concern ourselves with anything other than making the best project that we can possibly make. And the response that people have to that is neither in our control nor can it be a concern, because then what are we making it for? The reality is, if we make what we know is in our hearts, then hopefully people will respond to that, and they'll respond to the fact that it was done with integrity and imagination and creative vitality."

Playing Spock has had an unexpected effect on Quinto. He finds it difficult to use the word "logical" casually, often stopping himself before he says the word. "I always do that," he said. "When I'm going to say the word 'logical,' and then I stop myself. There are certain things that I can no longer do with as much ease as I used to. Using the word logical is one of them."

Sounds great. Frankly it doesn't matter at this point in history whether this movie "honors" the old shows - just as long as it's a good movie. All the information out so far indicates that it likely will be.

This version of Trek is real. Actually...

It's all lies.

But they're entertaining lies. And in the end, isn't that the real truth?

The answer is no.

Confirmed: Spock uses the word 'logical' in Trek XI.

This will more than make up for the vectoring nacelles.

Ya know, now that the writers strike is over, you'd think that Abrams could spring for some new talking points.

Quinto seems to be rotating between two or three different ones.

Next week's will be about what a thrill it is to work with Nimoy and how he'll play the part with reverence and respect.

He would have used that this week, but Urban hasn't returned his rental yet.

It's interesting that Nimoy has written about a similar phenomenon regarding his own and his castmates conversational use of "logical" during TOS. "It's as if Spock had said to us 'these are my words," he said (paraphrasing from "I Am Not Spock").

He also noted that while playing Caligula on stage he came to dread one line of dialogue which he had to deliver - "We are resolved to be logical" - because of the unpredictable but usually distracting reaction from the audience.

Yeah, I mean, I haven't been able to say "Live long and prosper." since 1965 without getting funny looks.
