Shatner Talks Trek And Marriage
As reported by The Press and Journal, "No one realized what a success the show would become," said Shatner. "It was workaday, nobody had the slightest idea that this would last longer than the moment they said 'Cut'. It only happened six or seven years later when the show was syndicated. I was flabbergasted." Shatner still understand why several cast members disliked him. "Leonard Nimoy to this day remains my dearest friend, but there were two or three people who were dissatisfied for reasons I've never really discovered to this day. There must be something really deep-seated. I felt badly because you don’t want anybody not liking you but also I had no awareness of it." The egos of actors and actresses also affected his first two marriages. Shatner's first two marriages were to actresses who did not find the success that he did. "There was envy and resentment," he said, describing what went wrong in the marriages, "tempered by love and affection, but as the years went by chinks in the armor appeared." His third wife, an alcoholic, died in a tragic accident. "The pain is so extreme for such a long time," he said, referring to the loss of his wife. "I don't know if counseling assuaged it or whether it was just the passage of time." But Shatner went on to remarry for a fourth time to a woman who had also suffered the loss of a spouse and finally found happiness. "Elizabeth was the perfect person for me to reach towards. She was my great fortune." To read more, head to the article located here. |
