Son Of Late 'Star Trek' Creator A Fan of Abrams

Count Gene Roddenberry's son as another of J.J. Abram's fan club after a visit to the set.

As reported by SyFy Portal, Roddenberry met with Abrams, probably when secondary shots were being filmed for Star Trek XI. "What I did see, it looked great," said Roddenberry. "The costumes, acting, sets.

Like so many associated with Star Trek, he had praise for Abrams. "J.J. is such a regular guy, and seems so much like a fan because he gets it," said Roddenberry. "While he has to work the way you have to work in Hollywood and balance what the studio wants, he's really on the side of the fans. He really tries to stay true of the continuity and stay true to canon."

Roddenberry is also on the side of the fans. He has been working for several years on a documentary along with Scott Colthorp called Trek Nation that will portray fans favorably, unlike some other recent documentary efforts. "I wanted to show fans in a positive light," said Roddenberry.

Trek Nation was delayed due to a lack of consensus between the creators on the focus of the film, but that has been sorted and Trek Nation might be ready for release later this year.

Didn't Trekmovie.com already report this a couple of months back?

It might be slightly repetitive, but the story was posted today. Often, some bits get repeated.

I usually (not always though) remember if I've done something on something. If the story predates November, I wouldn't remember it as I wasn't doing the news.

My comment was less a reflection on your abilities running TT. You take way more shit than you deserve in that arena, imo. My stament was more a comment on how late to the game SYFY Portal is on covering this film in any meaningful way.

TrekMovie has been on the ball all the way and has become THE website of record for any and all details about this film, and all without the usual prettiness and fanboy bias for which the ol' Portal has become known.

It's about time someone showed that Star Trek fans are human beings and not just a collection of socially inept geeks.

TrekMovie has one tremendous advantage over some of us. Living in/near L.A.
They do a good job though and are friendly. I covet them their contacts.

TrekMovie is a great site, and I enjoy going there. Anthony does a great job.

Unfortunately, just to clarify ... SyFy Portal was actually at the forefront of Star Trek XI news under the old guard, including writer Erik Jendresen. When Paramount went a different direction, it was one we weren't lucky enough to latch on to the right people for.

But hey, that's the beauty of having multiple sites out there to cover things ... you know one way or the other, you'll be in the know!
