'Star Trek XI' Tidbits From 'Grand Slam XVI'

Star Trek XI was written with a specific actor in mind.

As reported by Screen Rant, the script for the new Star Trek movie was written with Leonard Nimoy in mind. It was fortunate that he liked the script, as he is said to be pivotal to the story and had he not liked it, there would have been a problem.

The same could not be said of William Shatner's absence. Nimoy, who was at Grand Slam XVI, said that it would have been damaging to the Star Trek XI story to have put Shatner in the movie.

Nimoy claimed that Star Trek XI is a gigantic movie, the largest on which he has ever worked. He also said that Paramount is losing money on it now but they feel that it will be a summer blockbuster. The budget on the film is said to be below two hundred million dollars.

Roberto Orci revealed that Steven Spielberg read the script and talked to J.J. Abrams about directing it. Abram's wife helped to talk Abrams into taking on Star Trek XI

Whoever Vic Holtreman is, and honestly if I never find out it'll be too soon, if Kirk's selfless death to save millions of people who'll never know of his sacrifice is "ignoble," I'm guessing Vic's idea of a noble death would be the Terrell Owens route -- "Look at me, people! That's right! I'm sacrificing my life for you! Me the living legend with the spotlight right here! This is a selfless act that'll be talked about forever! I could talk all day about my humble acts of heroism! I'm doing this for you because that's just the type of man I am, a man who doesn't have to boast about the heroic and noble deeds that are too many to count, but you can read all about them in detail on my web site! Is this article suggesting Spielberg inquired about directing Trek XI himself or that he suggested that Abrams direct it as well as produce it? The latter is far more likely, but the wording of the article could be interpreted as the former.

I interpreted it as the latter. Then J.J Abrams decided to direct it himself. It was a selfless act.

It's all good as far as I'm concerned. Nimoy is happy, it's a big budget movie, it's positioned to be a summer blockbuster, Shatner/old Kirk are not in it, the look is right, what little has leaked out sounds great, etc. I'm still very positive about the whole thing.

As for the ship being built in space, do they mean the teaser was just symbolic all along??? Wow, who'd of thought?

And why aren't standard HTML tags interpreted in this forum? Why, say, [i], instead of <i>, for example? Seems silly to replace <> with []. Seems stupid, too. Just look at the quote above! Anyone know why this is?

Same here, and I see another of my questions have been addressed, that of the budget.

Just under 200 mil; that's close to what Cameron spent making Titanic ten years ago.

The article says it's far below 200 million. That seems to me a lot lower than "just under" 200 million, but by how much I'm not sure either.

Nothing but deliriously good things coming out of Star Trek XI, but they're still subordinate to my overwhelming pessimism. I can't handle another crappy Star Trek! And if they try to make a new series out of it...mercy!

In some ways, I'd be just as happy if this film is truly awesome, and they just leave it go at that.

Let's face, if it's stupendous, then there's the whole problem of trying to outdo the previous one (look at PotC, for example). If it's good and Trek ends here, then I can live with that.

Hell, anything is better than having Trek end with ATATV...
