^^ Personally, as far as the cup replay is concerned, I'm hoping for an injury time headed winner from Addison that's clearly offside, but given.....

After tonight, I don't want to see Arsene Wenger in charge of another signing at this football club. Right now, only Eduardo and Sagna are good enough. The rest of them are overpaid, lazy, spoiled children who can go pick up the wages they don't earn somewhere else.
Presumably you're getting rather worried that you won't make fourth after all? You'll just have to try our 2005 trick and win the Champions League. That would be hilariously devastating for Villa.

I have no agenda as to who loses out but I sincerely hope that Villa finish in the top 4...

Isn't it the case that if you win the CL but don't qualify for it through league position you have to start in the very first qualifying round? Or was that just for Liverpool and they've changed the rules since?

I can just see Arsenal having a trip to Rhyl or Lisburn Distillery or something like that. Or even the dreaded FC KAUNAS

No, the rule was changed in 2005. If the winner of the CL fails to gain qualification through their league finish, then they take the place of the lowest-ranked qualifier. So in other words, had the rule been in effect before 2005, Liverpool would have taken Everton's place, and the blues would have dropped into the UEFA cup. As it happened, we just had to play from the first qualifying round.

And of course, Everton got dumped out before the group stages anyway.

I agree with the sells, but you think there's a market for Senderos? Also with Gallas coming out saying that Van Persie's trouble in the locker room, why not get rid of him and keep Adebayor?

Tomalak - I don't think we're going to qualify for Europe now. Winning the Champions League is absolutely out of the question. If we can't beat Stoke and Fulham, we're not beating Roma.

In fact, there's even talk that if we do qualify for the UEFA Cup we would turn the place down as the financial incentives are insufficient - overall it would actually cost us money to play in it even if we won the tournament.

Big surprise this - Newcastle have agreed a fee with Bolton to sign Kevin Nolan.

I've had enough of this useless joke team pretending to be the team I watched when I was younger.

No amount of signings are going to do anything now. Arsenal need a clear-out at all levels - players, staff and the board.
I've been telling you this for years. The culture of failure that Arsenal actively promotes now will only continue to hurt your teams chances.

Not qualify for Europe at all? Who on earth is going to knock Arsenal down to 7-8th place? Wigan, Man City, Fulham and/or West Ham? The lowest Arsenal will finish is 6th, regardless of how badly they're doing at the moment. And that will get you UEFA Cup this year, provided United crush Spurs in the League Cup.

And no you couldn't beat Fulham or Stoke... but you did beat United and Chelsea. Your tie with Roma is completely up in the air.

In fact at the moment I think it's fair to say all 4 English clubs' CL last 16 ties are completely up in the air.

^As I said, there is a strong argument that we would not enter the Europa League (the new name for the UEFA Cup) if we finished in a qualifying spot.

Has that argument come from within the club? I mean, I can see how participation in such a tournament may be a detriment to some clubs financially, but surely if all those little clubs from Belgium and Serbia and Greece and so on can enter without problems, Arsenal can too?

A club refusing to enter the UEFA cup? Oh how football has lost its way

Well Derby have lost Barnes to Fulham. No great loss really, great player but we've hardly had him in the team for the last 18 months anyway so doubt we'll miss him that much. I'm much more worried by the Commons/Newcastle rumours...think we would miss him.

I see we're trying to hijack Cardiff bid for Motherwell's Porter.

At most, Arsenal would probably enter the Carling Cup team.

Put it this way, if Arsenal go to Russia to play Zenit St. Petersburg in a Champions League group stage game and beat them, they get guaranteed TV money (which is a lot) and also a lot of prize money just for the three points.

If Arsenal go to Russia to play Zenit in a Europa League group stage game and beat them they have to negotiate their own TV rights and the prize money is a lot less.

In both situations, Arsenal have travelled a long way to play a game on a Thursday and will then have to beg and plead with the Premier League to move the Saturday league game to Sunday.

Arsenal would have to be amongst the favourites to win the tournament, but the short term glory of doing so would not be worth the risk to our chances of getting back in to the Champions League.
