'Star Trek: Phase II' Actor To Appear In 'Star Trek XI'

Jeff Quinn, who portrayed the first Spock in the fan-produced Star Trek: New Voyages (now Phase II), joins Phase II's James Cawley in obtaining a small non-speaking part in Star Trek XI.

As reported by TrekMovie.com, Quinn showed up last year for the casting call for Star Trek XI. A request had gone out for people with "unique features" who were willing to shave their eyebrows. According to Quinn, who fit the description which appeared to be for potential Vulcans or Romulans, "Clearly I was OK with that."

Quinn played Spock in the New Voyages episodes: Come What May, In Harm's Way, To Serve All My Days and the Hugo-nominated World Enough and Time. Ben Tolpin took over the role of Spock for subsequent episodes.

Although Quinn's role is a non-speaking part, he did say that he was "front and center" in a couple of shots. He kept mum on his role, but partially shaved eyebrows might be taken as an indication of a role as a Vulcan.

When I saw the headline, I thought the story was about Xon (David Gautreaux). I forgot that New Voyages changed their name for some reason.

Quinn's face looks like a skull with skin stretched over it. Very Vulcany.

Could it be because Quinn never appeared in Phase II? The headline is wrong. He was a New Voyages actor, not a Phase II actor.

I suspect the headline was typed in a hurry, and logic had nothing to do with it. Fascinating.

New Voyages is now Phase II. I usually go with the "new" name now.
