Lock yourself away in a white castle somewhere before you learn any other disturbing casting info.
Yeah I've seen that one too; The Harold Kumar guy should be an ok Sulu.
And I live in New York, so if it actually came down to it, I probably could lock myself in a White Castle; Wouldn't be the first time.

I think we should wait till we see the movie to say that these guys can't do their roles or they can do their roles.

Having been a fan of The Pegg for the past ten years, I'm understandably feeling a bit glass-half-full about his role. Same as I am for the project as a whole, really.

Rest assured, I've sent Pegg and Abrams an e-mail demanding the finger be severed before filming. I've stated that the method is not important, but that if they were to use a Scottish claymore, that would score points from the Trek community. I've also threatened both men with bodily harm should the demand go ignored, and I've let them know that this film will not only be boycotted by the community should the finger remain on Pegg's hand, but that we will do everything in our power to destroy every copy of the film, and make the lives of the cast and crew a living hell.

Also, I took the liberty of signing the letter with the names of everyone on the BBS.
I'm glad I'm a new member... I heard that any death threats to crew of ST XI is being investigated at the highest level of government.
AP News- Vice-President Cheney was seen cleaning his gun today... mumbled something about a BS BBS causing trouble... ;-)

Maybe I'm still in shock, but my enthusiasm for this project has just dropped by about fifty percent; I don't care how many fingers he lops off, this doofus reminds me nothing of Scotty. I'm going to head off now and live in fear of what I might learn next.
James Doohan was a good actor, but in all honesty, he never got to stretch his talents in Star Trek playing Scotty... except when he was suspected of murder. It was a good Scotty episode.

They can just have a short scene in sickbay where Federation medical technology can regenerate Scotty's lost finger.

Problem solved.

Re: Should Simon Pegg cut off middle finger out of respect for canon?

No, we require the exact opposite! If there's a scene where they surgically replace the finger, we will eventually need a scene where he loses it again and says "screw it!" to getting it re-replaced. What they need to do is have him lose it near the end of the film, or during the major action scene.

I think if anybody were to suggest to Simon Pegg that he should cut off his finger I think he'd let that person see the finger in question mabye even give it to them.
