'Star Trek XI' Tidbits

Small teases about Star Trek XI continue to appear, ranging from the convenience of having bad Los Angeles weather for filming just when needed, to a broad description of the plot of the movie.

As reported at Reelzchannel, J.J. Abrams was grateful for a recent bout of bad weather. "Just for this one scene that we happen to be doing that requires this kind of weather," he said, "literally it could not be more perfect. So selfishly we're all very excited that the weather has been cooperating."

Abrams discussed the date change from Christmas Day to May 2009, saying "It wasn't something that I did, it was something that [I] was told was going to happen," he said. He felt that the move would be advantageous though. "This new date gives the movie an even bigger opportunity for an audience."

Anton Yelchin gave a broad description of the Star Trek XI story line as reported at the Chicago Sun-Times. "It is an origin story," he said. "It's really about how everyone's favorite characters...got to the Enterprise. It's about how it all comes together. It's not just them arriving and saying, 'Let's just kick it on the Enterprise.' It's really an epic story full of different action and drama."

He went on to talk about the Enterprise. "The new Enterprise ship isn't straight out of the '60s," he said. "But they did take some '60s elements and keep them. The whole project is really a balance between the old series and the new film."

IESB reports that actor Tom Cruise visited the Star Trek XI set recently. There had been rumors that Cruise would have a small cameo in the movie, and his multiple-hour visit to the set has caused speculation to rise again.

The official Star Trek XI site has a new location. It can be found here.

That's pretty cool if Tom Cruise is in the movie, I bet he's gonna be a Captain or something

God - if anything could pull me out of the movie, it'd be seeing that nutter's mug on screen.

If it's just a cameo, I doubt it would be too noticeable, at least I hope so.

Ugh ... If Tom Cruise is in this movie, I won't see it. Forget it. I refuse to pad that freak's wallet.

Man I would so like Tom Cruise to be in this movie…not that I’m a big TC fan but he does have immense screen presence.

Just say'en I like to proposed story line too.

Don't care if Cruise is in it as a cameo.

I don't really like Cruise, but then again there are a lot of actors I don't like. I probably wouldn't see anything if I worried about them.

I tend to agree, especially if it's an uncredited appearance.

I'm more interested in how the weather worked in J.J.'s favor; can't wait to see what that scene looks like.

Not a fan of Cruise, but it would be cool if his were a small cameo like Christian Slater's in TUC.
