wrt station docking, perhaps they'd detach and move one of the landers to a stand-off position, and hard-dock to a station pylon there? presumably its sturdy and has any necessary umbilical points already.

alternatively, a massive station pylon which engulfs the entire globe. once sealed, an arm grabs the lander and swings it aside, hatch-like, before other arms move umbilicals into place.

Works for me.

Re: Star Ship Polaris

Tank turrets have hatches in them, so why not the turret guns on either side of Polaris? Put a docking tube where the current turrets are, then mount the guns on a ring turret that rotates around this "hub".

Kinda like this, though obviously with the turret seated around the dock/hub, rather than in this "exploded" view.

Re: Star Ship Polaris

And? Manned or not, it's still possible for them to have passageways through them. Correct?

The only guns I'm aware of on the current design are at the ends of the missile pylons. I don't think they're big enough to have hatches in the middle, and in any event you'd be talking about putting that entry shaft right through the middle of the missiles.

Wow, too bad. I thought it was a brilliant idea. Unless the missiles could be moved elsewhere.

No!

No moving the missiles, no moving anything at this point for gods' sake. The ship is great just as it is.

Roger that! The only way those missiles are moving is if they are fired!

Agreed. Let's get her into the VFX pipeline.

Re: Star Ship Polaris

There will be no more design changes. As far as I'm concerned, the primary docking ports are concealed behind the hull plates between the lander modules and the cargo bays. Exactly how that works can wait until the next production since they aren't required at all for this one.

I expect to post a new round of WIP images by Thursday evening, which will show a considerable amount of progress.

That phrase keeps coming up with increasing frequency behind the scenes.

Make that Friday evening. Looks like my real job is going to keep me otherwise occupied for the next couple of nights.
