Certainly though things like Quantum Torpedoes will be used. I like the look of that refit, it makes a lot of sense.
Thanks. I tried to do a web search for equivalent images before being "forced" to upload this image onto the Internet (after not having found any since Mr. Weber's site shut down ).

Re: Galaxy Class Starships 20 years later. What changes Occu

I've always wanted this:

A weapons pod mounted near the rear of the saucer.

It would be easy to attach.

Just design the weapons pod so it had a base plate that matched the top of the interconnections between the engineering hull and saucer.

Saucer detaches, weapons pods base plate connects to the top of the engineering hull along with the pylon that supports the weapons pod, saucer reattaches to the top of the base plate.

Presto. You have your Galaxy class toting a large weapons pod that would include various types of hardware.

I never understood the idea of putting phasers on the nacelles. Aren't there phaser strips directly underneath at the end of the ship?

Hmm. Well, regarding crew complement, I do recall in "Yesterday's Enterprise," that Yar said the Galaxy-class was capable of carrying thousands of troops, so I can see a comparable increase in the Starfleet universe we know if families and civilians were no longer on board. Maybe they'd become even more multi-purpose, serving as troop carriers in some circumstances. Or maybe multi-generational ships for very long-range exploration/colonization to allow crew members to marry and have children.

True enough, she does have an onboard antimatter generator.

Re: Galaxy Class Starships 20 years later. What changes Occu

I'm assuming as the design matures they would build different one-offs and special versions... Maybe a hand-full of AGT battleships, a couple with Sovvie-style nacelles... a couple with mission pods.

Mostly the ones already built would have tons of internal upgrades, I recall reading somewhere that there was lots of internal volume to spare yet so maybe we'd go 2-3 refit cycles before a TMP-style rebuild?

I think we would see variants with different style nacelles representing improvements in warp tech. Possibly something similar to 1701-E.

I think that alot of the "minor" tech would be updated...holographic viewscreen, weapons upgrades, stain resistent carpeting.
Patrick Weber of the old USS Miranda used to have a more realistic "Galaxy refit" design which does exactly that. The nacelles look a bit more like those of the Ent-E (but still flat at the top). Furthermore, the dark areas at the back of the Ent-E's saucer are also placed onto the refit Galaxy.
Interesting take, I like it.

Indeed. That'd the TMP level refit.

Those side weapons there look fanboyish. How can the captain see the starfield on the port side with the port side weapon blocking the view?

Ok we need someone to put the AGT cannon on that version above and a third nacelle and those weapon-pods as well. Also the fins.

We'll call it the EPIC FANBOY CLASS. Other ships in the class include the USS RAGING BONER, USS WET DREAM, USS ZOMGWTF and the USS ALL YOUR BASES BELONG TO US.
