JD's Sword of Damocles review STRONG SPOILER WARNING

I just finished Sword of Damocles, and I has certainly cemented Titan's place on my favorites list. I really enjoyed pretty much everything about it, the characterisations were spot, the writing was great, and I really liked the Orishans.

I know alot of people complained about the stuff with the tesereact, but I really didn't have a problem with it. Although that could simply be because I didn't really focus alot of energy on figuring it out, I pretty much just read the descriptions and moved on.

I must say that I am really dissapointed to see Jaza and Ra-Havreii go, because I thought that Geoffrey Thorne really did some great stuff with them in this book. Especially Jaza, who was very much the focus of this book. IMHO the book did a really great job of fleshing out his backstory, which I personally found really interesting. But that really isn't be suprising, because that seems to be how things allways work out in TV series at least. The episode (or in this case book) that gives the character some of their best moments and develops them the most is almost always that characters final appearance.

But these characters weren't the only ones to get some interesting developtment, we also got a fair amount of development for Vale, Huilan, and Dakal, and even learned a new tidbit of information about Ree and his people. Speaking of Ree, I really hope we get a book that does for him what this book did for Jaza, because every little tidbit of information we get about him only makes me want to learn more. I know the chances of this are pretty slim, but I would love to see either Titan or one of the other ships go the Pahkwa-thanh home world so that we can get a worldbuilding novle all about them. Then maybe on visiting S'ti'ach homeworld, and then the Choblik homeworld. LOL ok so I want to learn more about all of the new aliens from Titan.

They left him behind on the planet, didn't they? I didn't think they got him back, but I might have overlooked something, it was late when I finished it.

This reminds me of something I've been meaning to ask, who were all of the people at the end?
I'm pretty sure some of them were Dakal and the Caitian (who's name is escaping me ATM), Vale and Huilan, Riker and Troi, and Vale and Madan at Jaza's home.

I hate to tell who the people were at the end because I made it blurry on purpose. However, since this is a spoiler zone, here are some.

Ra-Havreii and Modan. Huilan and Vale. Ree and the Trois. Dakal and Hsuuri. And, for mystery's sake, I'll leave it to you to figure out who the last two were.

Ra-Havreii makes it through and even made a friend. I make it a rule only to kill one regular per novel. Although, I also made a point of nobody ever finding Jaza's body so...

Glad you liked the book, JD. I agree about those novels that explore the worlds of Star Trek. There have been a few already as well as a couple of the CoE novellas.

Very much worth a look.

Well, they did find his grave, didn't they? But as for whether his bones are really the ones buried there, well there's a lot of wiggle room for someone to wiggle in should they choose.

Ra-Havreii did make it through? Oops, guess I missed a bit there, like I said it was late when I finished it. I'm gonna go check out, because I hate to think I missed something in the end of the story.
Cool, I actually got the characters at the end. I forgt about the fact that Ree was in the Troi's sequence. Oh, that reminds me, I can't wait to see what the Troi's baby is like. Just out of curiosity, would said kid have any kind of telepathic abilites?
Are there more world building SCE novellas than just Force of Nature, the Nasat story?

I think their baby would have some kind of empathic ability since Deanna is an empath.

^ Possibly. Devinoni Ral from "The Price" was one quarter Betazoid and he had empathic abilities. However he had four siblings who didn't.

Wow, I didn't realize you guys did so many of those kinds of stories in SCE. I guess I know what I'll be reading whenever I finish one of the two books I'm reading (Forged in Fire.
