Re: Aerial Photo of the Original M*A*S*H Site
Coincidentally, I recently bought the whole series off Amazon for $100. Burning through the eps now. It's bringing back a lot of memories. Such a groundbreaking show in its time.

Was this filmed in Korea?
I haven't seen the original film, but I have seen quite a few episodes of the show. The sand and vegetation don't look a thing like what you'd find in Korea.

That's interesting. I have a friend who went to Korea a couple years ago (still there now) and when he came back for a visit one time he said the exact opposite: that the topography on M*A*S*H is actually quite similar.

Re: Aerial Photo of the Original M*A*S*H Site
Well, I imagine it depends on what part of Korea you're referring to. It may be small, but it can't be entirely uniform. The key area would be the vicinity of Uijeongbu, which was always said to be about three miles away from the 4077th. Here's a page I found with a lot of photos of the Suraksan National Park near Uijeongbu:
http://rokdrop.com/2007/04/16/things...ksan-mountain/
Judging from those, I'd say both views are correct: the mountainous, forested topography of the Uijeongbu area is broadly similar to that of the Malibu Creek location, but the vegetation and geological formations look rather different up close.

Re: Aerial Photo of the Original M*A*S*H Site
Thanks for those pics. It undoubtedly matters where in the country you are. I'm not entirely sure where my friend is (in fact, I'm not entirely certain he hasn't gone to another Southeast Asian country), but I think it's one of the less populated areas. I could be wrong, though.
And thanks for posting the maps again, 137th; I'll use them next time I watch the show.

137th Gebirg, do you have a web page where you display your super-cool M*A*S*H diagrams? If not, then you should!

Re: Aerial Photo of the Original M*A*S*H Site
Last night we watched the one with the soldier wounded in the throat, where the whole episode is from his POV (the camera, and by extension the viewer at home, is the soldier). During the part where the soldier is flying in on the chopper, there is a nice flyby of the site. You can really see a lot of the layout displayed on those maps.

Yes, I have long wondered that myself. Rizzo was known to sleep under the jeeps in his motor pool, so that one has been solved and after Radar left, Klinger slept in his old bunk in the office. I have no idea which tent was used for him in the series. I should probably go back and add his name to one of the tents, but it was clear that during the series run, with only a few tents to work with, actors were moved around for the purposes of filming. Even the exterior sets at Malibu Creek were probably 1/10th the size of a fully operational MASH unit in Korea, which were massive tent cities - no permanent standing structures like the OR building in the show.

Heh...hadn't thought about that. I suppose I could do a sub-section of my Starship Schematics site - M*A*S*H schematics
It is one of my long-time passions, almost as old as my love of Trek and Battlestar. I'll likely try to work on an interior layout of the movie hospital before I create the web page for them. Right now, they're exclusively hosted on ImageShack, but that can change.
