Re: My God, it's full of THREAD BOMBS!

Yeah, relatively the same size, like planets, sure some are giants compared to the smaller ones but they still sorta fit together -I know what you're thinking b/c that's also the kind of imagery that fits in my mind... but what that animation reminds us is that there are several orders of magnitude in difference between our own and some of the bigger stars.

It is mind boggling. If I remember right from reading, it takes light like nine hours just to travel from one side of VY Canis Majoris to the other.

It's okay, I could probably make that in 12 parsecs.

Isn't it only something like 11 light hours across our solar system?

Re: My God, it's full of THREAD BOMBS!

From Wiki:

Assuming the upper size limit of 2100 solar radii, light would take more than 2.7 hours to travel around the star's circumference, compared to 14.5 seconds for the Sun.

I find it a little odd whenever the size of stars and the universe come up someone has to say it's humbling or makes them feel insignificant.
Yeah, life's just not worth living, what with stars being all big and shit.

Yes, because clearly saying they're humbled or feel insignificant in comparison means they're suicidal or think they're worthless. That's one hell of a world record leap of logic you just made there.

According to this youtube video (which are all thoroughly scientific) it would take a passenger jet travelling at 900kph 1100 years to fly around its circumference. I believe that officially qualifies for the title of "Big".
