It might very well be. Because of the sharpness of the sign and text, it's hard to tell if that's where the focus was, or if it's been added.

It's clearly a cropped picture, which makes it tougher.
There are some (whataretheycalled) digital artifacts on the placard part of the image -but those are also present in the rest of the image. The writing, however, looks very much like how you'd write that big letteringh with a big ol' handheld.

Besides, the very top of the placard with the shadows and stickers? tape? really makes me believe this is a photography of that placard; too messy to be a 'shop -a 'shopper might have cleaned out the mess or added more elsewhere.

But of course, anything could be - It's a rather small image with skewed contrast and it's been compressed to within an inch of death…
Here's the collection it came from:
http://www.flickr.com/groups/08olymp...y/pool/page20/

The page of the person who took the photo:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/dead-ro/page9/

And the comments on the photo itself, including one from the person who took the shot:

Oh yeah. Completely. Lowered the intelligence of the whole thing by several notches there
Now, why he'd photoshop that specific picture when he has several others in the same style posted sequentially and clearly has no agenda against the protesters, I don't know. And considering that the shadows covering the lettering line up with those in the background of the picture, and the writing has a distinctly handwritten quality, I'm going for it being real.

There's the possibility of it being a counter-protest sign designed to make the surrounding protesters look like idiots, but that theory is kind of blown out of the water by the fact that the sign has Tibetan prayer flags on it (the tape-like things along the top).

The funny thing is, Berlin was awarded the 1936 Olympic Games in 1931, two years before the Nazis rose to power, so technically the person who made the sign is correct, though obviously not intentionally.

I can confirm however that there were in fact no large yellow letters floating through the air at the time, so those were clearly added after the original shot was taken.

In closing, I'd like to give a hearty "fuck you" to Photoshop, for making me actually search for the Flickr page the original shot came from, and for destroying our faith in basic human stupidity.

Thanks for clearing that up Locutus! -You must really have been bored…

But tell me; how does one go about searching for an image -or rather- an original image? -I've been trying that on many different occasions but only been able to find obvious 'fakes' or copies without any mention of who made them originally.

Yes, we do. The Olympics were hosted by Nazi Germany in 1936.

However, Berlin was selected to host them before the Nazi party rose to power.

Yay, history. Now can we move on?

Wrong image; I didn't know how long it would take me to make the right one so I deleted that post. But here it is again (with the right image):
