Speaking of homages, remind me to tell you one I just discovered after the episode.
Check.

Now this scene with Dr. Franklin just underscores how hard it is to be at all sympathetic with Bester.

Franklin's about the only 'mundane' who's not a jerk in this episode.
Zach certainly didn't have to be like that, but ... given what he knows of Bester's actions in the past ... it's hard to blame Zach.

And Bester once again proves that his arrogant chip makes it impossible for anyone to see his point of view. You get the feeling Zach really was saddened by Chen's death

Yeah, especially after what happened to Garibaldi.

A thought just occurred to me. In light of the previous episode, could one consider Bester's attitude and treatment of mundanes to be a sort of "eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth" response?

Could be. That's an interesting thought.

I have been known to have them from time to time.

It's the irony of Garibaldi being a proponent of that approach, then later becoming a sort of victim of it. That makes our choice of episodes even better than I had first thought!

Another cool little nugget I just now learned from Lurker's ...
This is the third episode directed by Stephen Furst, who also plays Vir. All three of his episodes (this one, "The Illusion of Truth," and "The Deconstruction of Falling Stars") are told from the points of view of people other than the series' main characters.

I'd forgotten that! He did a good job on all of them.

That's interesting! I hadn't realized he directed any eps!

I'll say! ALl three of them very thought provoking and special. Even his two episodes from "Crusade" - "Each Night I think of Home" and "Appearances and Other Deceipts" were of similar flavor.

Eww...Kinda creepy when that little girl intern volunteers to throw the mundane out the airlock.

It's the juxtaposition of the seemingly benign and sweet intern, so casually tossing a person out the airlock. Even someone as loathsome as this petty thief.

'Each Night' was that the one Rick Biggs guest starred in?

This is what makes it especially creepy. That was very well done. Sorta Nazi-ish, in a way. "These are lesser life forms, so it doesn't really matter". Like stepping on a bug.
