The best part was that they showed a Tellerite and an Andorian, to have a confirming memory that these races existed. This enabled them to re-introduce them in Enterprise without a quibble. And as for Yvonne Craig, from Elvis to Batman to Kirk to every man who caught a glimpse, she was a hazard to all and a boon for dry cleaners.

Shatner plays his most sedate Kirk in WGD. Its as if he had only so much haminess available per episode. Sure, Shatner as Garth is as over the top as he goes, but as Kirk he was... nonchalant? Maybe he had the Honk Kong flu that week and just wasn't up for heroics.

As I mentioned in a prior post, I believe that Bill and Leonard had no choice but to tray and underplay Ihnat, who tenaciously held on to and ripped every scene from everyone else's hands. Although he had a great rapport with Yvonne Craig.

Man, I love this episode.

Marta was a seductress by trade, not a whore. She was used to tittilate, just one of many methods to obtain the information Garth wanted. She also happened to be insane, Mwahaha, but if you could get her in a room with no weapons (no room in her dress) then maybe you could have some pleasure. If she was attracted to you, physically. But if you can have choices like Garth, you can have all. The actor is handsome and has a command of the language. The precision of thought, however is not present, thus, the penal colony. He said Penal, Cartman. LOLOL.

Listen to me. If you don't have a mental picture of this actress, from eiither Batman or Star Trek, both of which can be referenced on YouTube.com, you may as well become a priest. Do me a favor, look around for a picture, and the hair and the look that butter would not melt, and then you can tell her the code to get on the ship. And while you are at it, please tell her where my bank codes are also, and she can have every dollar. But also, ask her to linger for a few minutes, I want her to wait on my easy chair while i wash her coistume in the sink. She can put this handkerchief over herself. Wilbur Hatch? Fred Steiner? Since that episode had tracked music from either library cues or previous scores, it could have been anybody. My brief search through Jeff Bond's The Music of Star Trek didn't turn up the answer' but I'll keep looking...

Hoo-wah! Love, love, love Yvonne Craig as Marta. She is the queen of the Orion women! Love when she tries to kill Kirk and explains, "He's my lover and I have to kill him!"

Overall, it's a pretty corny ep, but some lines just crack me up, like when Spock is arguing logically against Garth's grandiose plans, including his promise to make Spock a captain in his delusional fleet. Finally, Garth just loses it and yells, "REMOVE THIS ANIMAL!"

Not the best, but certainly not the worst. I recently rewatched it and thought how silly most of it was.

Wouldn't say love was the word, but Craig and Ihnat are wonderful for this script, silly as it is. I happened to see them both recently in separate 1968 episodes of It Takes a Thief (produced by none other than Gene L. Coon; looks like he went there directly from the Desilu lot). Trek provided a much better showcase for each.

I also enjoyed the connections to the early episode "Dagger of the Mind." Not counting musical cues, does any other third-season episode so overtly refer to any element(s) of any episode from the first two seasons?
