Re: TrekUnited Proposed Season 5 Co-Production Dea

I'd rather see a kick-ass "Peacekeeper Wars"-style miniseries that gives the cast a proper send off than nothing.
So would I. That's why I've always thought a 13 (or 12) episode "last" season would be ideal. Carnivale and Deadwood do that on HBO, and they tell terrific stories. It's a little longer than a miniseries so everything wouldn't have to be cramped together, but being very shortened it would give the actors far more freedom. Paramount will probably say "no" to everything anyway but don't borrow trouble just yet. There are possibilities.

12 episodes leading up to the birth of the federation, dealing with the Romulan Wars....something of that nature.

EDIT:
And to keep Star Trek vital and refreshing, to not milk it out so far that nobody would want to ever touch it again, they made the decision that Trek needs a break. They're not going to come back from that.
Valid point. If I may offer a counterpoint.....Trek won't stay vital and fresh if the last memory of its opening chapater is as huge a turkey as TATV promises to be. That last impression is rather vital, as it is in people's nature to dwell on negativity. Voyager ended poorly and now this. Trek can't afford for ENT not to have a proper send off. If it doesn't, fans like myself will always expect Trek to disppoint us when it's all over. As it stands, I'm not interested in another series. I don't want to invest in Trek again and if mfaith can get shaken, that doesn't bode well for a franchise from which so many fans have already bolted. Most Trekkies weren't as devoted as I was.

A 6 to 12 our "series/mini-series" might not be a bad idea at all.

Keep your hopes tempered, folks. Keep them in check. Paramount could very well say "no."
Actually while I'm very excited about this news, I'm also fairly confident they will say no. Guess that's just the pessimistic side of me, but they just seem adamant about "taking a break" and I'm afraid nothing is going to change that.

Personally I think that's mistake, BUT they're the bigwig executives and I'm just a little nobody, so who am I to argue?

If nothing else, hopefully this will let them know that Trek can be financially viable again some day, if they can't get Bakula and company to Canada, maybe the next series can be filmed there.

Re: TrekUnited Proposed Season 5 Co-Production Dea

I want a season 5 (not to mention a 6 and 7 with 7 going out respectfully as opposed to 'These are the voyages...') but lets assume for a moment that this deal goes through,
just a couple of words of warning (especially if key cast can't/won't be involved)...
Airwolf Season 4.
*Shudder*

By the way, will the IGN article corroborate this? And what other news outlets might be doing similar reports? I asked because I believe I saw a post on here where somebody was already dismissing the reporter writing the IGN article as 'the guy who writes the Star Trek game reviews'.

Re: TrekUnited Proposed Season 5 Co-Production Dea

TrekUnited have a much harder job to release names than Paramount. Thing is, TU is a small company. If we want to gain trust from Paramount and these other entertainment companies, we can't give information out unless we're told we can disclose it. Or we could, but then we risk getting them angry with us, and cutting off all talks.

It's a very difficult thing, getting oneself from fledgeling company to trying to negotiate something like this in a short period of time. One mis-step in either direction could cause problems - whether with sponsors or those we're negotiating with. However, making problems with the companies would be worse, because they can stop the talks instantly, disappointing all the sponsors. Then I'm sure we'd get cries of "Why did you tell us that much?!"

OK, just had a thought.

Say Paramount bites at this proposal (small chance) and everything is shipped up to Vancouver for production to start again and at some point their ready to start filming a season 5. You pretty much just guarenteed that Season 5 will be without Scott Bakula. He's gone on record several times that part of the reason he took Enterprise was that it ment that he would be able to still be with his family in LA. What then? Recast the part of Archer? Phase his charactor out?

Creates a whole new set of problems to have to iron out.

Q2
I like Scott a lot and I would hate to see him go, but I would have no problem at all with Trip being promoted to Captain of the Enterprise.

Hell, they could promote Archer to Admiral. He could then make appearances talking to Trip on the viewscreen in the captain's ready room. They could shoot stuff like that with a DVCam in Scott's living room!

IGN is not noted for it's great insightful reporting, it's hard hitting interviews or it's exposes.

I was a newspaper editor for several years and we had a term for the kind of journalism they produce...."Press Release News Reports."

Another term was "Puff Piece"

Interesting development. I guess we wait and see what Paramount's response is (at this point I think it's fair to say THE LETTER is nullified).
How can the letter be nullified? According to TU Paramount knew about this last week and they STILL released the letter.

The Letter is nullified when Paramount says that Enterprise isn't cancelled. Last time we all checked that hadn't happened.
Agreed. Otherwise, why would Paramount release the letter when they did?

I agree. Heck, Rick Berman has been arguing that, as has Bragga, for quite a while. I would bet Berman himself probably supported the idea of giving Trek a break for a few years.

Anyone else notice that all of a sudden the sets that TU has said were still on the soundstage are now "In Storage"?

Who is the Canadian group? What entertainment companies are in it? Who's the producer? Why not specify who they are?
These seem like reasonable questions.

Gotcha.
This may have been just over excitement on people's parts but didn't I also read somewhere that SciFi portal and maybe even the BEEB (that's what we Brits nicknamed the BBC by the way) were going to also publish this story?

To give TU a second chance to quit accepting donations before Paramount takes it to the next level.

What reason would these companies have for being secretive? And, quite simply, if the companies really wanted this stuff to be quiet and secretive, then the folks over at TU should just shut up. Stop making vague claims, which is what started all this in the first place.
