Re: TrekUnited Proposed Season 5 Co-Production Dea

This is a good little piece of news. I look forward to more details.

If this does come to pass, I would imagine a reduced number of eps/season (e.g. 13) because of the distance issue for the actors.

This is all ego. And, folks, if it happens I will strip naked, cover myself in chum and dip my cock in a tank of pirhana.
Well, thanks for nothing!!

Now I officially have no idea which side of this issue I'm on!!

Seriously though, I think if you're going to strip naked, cover yourself in chum and dip your cock in a tank of pirhana, it shouldn't be for something as silly as a television show.

It should be for a charity or tsunami relief.

Here's the headline:

And the subhead:

The bottom line is they gotta get those production costs down.
I think that Paramount's more immediate concern with Star Trek is to make a product that will satisfy the huge build-in audience that they have.
Isn't that what they've been trying to do for years now? They had a built-in audience of 12M who saw the series and bailed. Moving production to Canada and getting Canadian backers isn't going to solve the problem of why they left. Frankly, I think those people are just gone and there's nothing anyone can do to get em back. My solution would be to simply re-organize the finances so that 3M viewers are sufficient.

But the problems with ENT are IMO related to the influcences of B&B. I don't think that Star Trek should be shooting and expecting for 3 million viewers. It should be shooting and expecting for at least twice that. Three million is an unexpectedly low number for Star Trek. I think it's perfectly fine for most of the stuff that they churn out on scifi, and more power to them. There are more Star Trek fans than that - frankly if they can get Trek up to a quality level consistent with something like BSG, that's a start (and just an example).

I agree with you, but is ENT the show to do that with? To nosedive from 12 million viewers at its premiere to a weekly average of 3 million now means that an awful lot of people have given up on the show, if not Trek in general. As good as Coto and the Reeves-Stevenses are, they're not magicians, and there's nothing more impossible to do than try to get people to come back to a show after they've largely reached the conclusion that it sucked. Better to start fresh with a new series, but using the writers and producers who were actively turning ENT around.

Of course, now that Coto's signed on for the upcoming season of 24, I don't even know if that would be possible.

Coto *could* still write for ENT.

plus DS9 dived further and still got a full seven seasons...

So did Voyager. For that matter, TNG's ratings began sinking after Season 5...

Well, I agree with you on this. I think that Trek should be shooting higher than the kind of audience that scifi typically gets, and of course ENT is not the show to do that - this would be a future series.

Would Coto and the Reeves-Stevens be the ones for this? I don't think so. Do I have the name of the induviduals that they would need to take over the show? No. But I personally believe that they're out there.

Star Trek's entire production staff needs a complete turnonver IMO.
