Re: RPG Recruitment Thread

Starbase 309 and the USS Janos

So this is the very first game I've run and it has a large amount of sentimental value to me, not to mention it's been going on for 3 years (come this September ). However, it is on the ropes and i absolutely do not want it to die. True, activity is at, like, the bottom of the barrel but the writing that does take place and the level of character development with all of the characters is remarkable. I honestly feel there are no shallow, under developed characters here.
The Background
Janos and 309 are a base and starship duo stationed outside of the Galactic Barrier during 2380 in the area of space between the Andromeda and Milky Way galaxies. Placed in orbit of Magnia, a rare M-class planet populated by descendants of the SS Valiant, one of the first human spacefaring vessels. In 2333, the USS Stargazer was sent across the barrier to investigate the possible energence of a new threat to the Federation. It was then that the Federation came in contact with the Nuyyad and the Magnians. (TOS: "Where No Man Has Gone Before", TNG: The Valiant) Relations with the Magnians continued and flourished to the point of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two. Thus eventually setting the stage for the Janos and 309.

During all of the confusion that followed the Dominion War, Starfleet Command and the Federation Council came to realize that they needed a safe haven in the event that the unimaginable should happen: Earth fell and the continuation of the government could not be guaranteed within the Alpha, Beta, or Gamma Quadrants. Hence, "Operation Decouverte," a top secret program that was given to Admiral Motwani. Of the many options presented, only one made sense and could realistically be achieved - build a Starbase outside the Galatic Barrier in orbit of friendly Magnia. After some initially tense discussions via the Embassy in Rome, the plan was approved and given the go-ahead by both governments. construction began in 2377, and required the diversion of key resources to build the base.

The base and her "support ship" the USS Janos, were made operational in 2380, following a rushed pace of construction on the base, and was quickly staffed by a wide variety of Magnian Defense Corps officers and Starfleet Officers. Now as the year prepares to turn into 2381, the rest of the Federation is dealing with the sudden return of the Borg, the Janos and her crew are now dealing with new threats such as they have never dealt with before.
Current Mission: "All...bad things?"
What starts as a somewhat normal day for the crews of 309 and Janos, suddenly turns into confusion when the crew of the base, in a case of "lost in translation", manage to offend an alien trader. In his retaliation for the apparent offense, the alien fires what appears to be sub-par weaponry against the station. At first the crews notice nothing until moments later they find themselves not where they are supposed to be. Unbeknownst to them they have all been thrown 20 years into the future. A future they certainly haven't been expecting.

The Federation is at war with the Nuyyad, a war that the Federation is loosing, miserably. Federation strategists put the end of the war within weeks if not days with the fall of Earth and Starfleet has been reduced to a mere shadow of itself. With the Romulans and Klingons loosing the war on their own fronts against the Nuyyad, its up to the crews of the Janos and 309 to find out where they went wrong and how to prevent this dystopian dream from happening. But can they do so in time as the Nuyyad fleet surges towards Earth seemingly sealing their fate?
Are you willing to help them find a way past it all? Do you have a character that really just wants to get away from it all or has a past that's better left concealed? Then join today!

Starbase 309 and USS Janos (link) - Yes I realize that it looks fairly dead, but that is the whole point of advertising: to get people to help bolster activity!

Open Positions:
 • Chief Helm Officer
 • Chief Security/Tactical Officer
 • Chief Counselor/Diplomatic Officer
 • SFMC Corps Commander
 • Chief of Strategic Operations
 • Chief Flight Control Officer
 • Chief Medical Officer

Re: RPG Recruitment Thread

I am searching fo a crew for 3 Star Trek PBEM RPG
1. USS California (Archer Era Simm)
While lacking the scientific capabilities of the NX class, these ships are the backbone of the military role of Starfleet. Designed to protect Earth's rapidly expanding interstellar trade routes, borders and colonies; these ships have seen their share of combat with pirates and other criminals.
Have you ever wanted to be there in the begining, now is you chance.
2. USS Oregon - Takes place after the Book "A Singular Destiny"
USS Oregon is a Ronin Class Starship. The Oregon carries a smaller crew than what would be normally be assigned. Crew quarters and science labs have been enlarged.
We work for Starfleet intelligence and a few others. Exploration is not our mission. We go where others won't, we gather intelligence and preform other missions that Starfleet cannot officially do. We do not exist.
3. Starbase Basilisk
Starbase 19524 Baslisk is the home port for the USS Oregon, stationed on the planet of Zion, at the border between Federation space and the Typhon Pact space. This is the home of a joint operation of Starfleet Security and Intelligence.
A planetary base.
Basilisk is seeking First and Second Officer, All departments head and Officers/enlisted personnel.
Are you the Captain of a Starship? Do you need a place for some R&R? Request Docking at Stabase Baslisk.

Re: RPG Recruitment Thread

Established three years ago, and going strong the Knights are a loose grouping of play by forum games that don't involve dice, don't require knowledge of rules and don't need prior knowledge from players. The main guiding principle is that everyone involved should be having fun.

Games are run in conjunction with the players in them, you help decide what happens in the plot lines you are a part of. You design your characters, you get to decide what happens to them, you can make it as dramatic or mundane as you like.

Everyone here is friendly, everyone is welcoming, nobody is going to try and tell you they are more important than you because of some shiny icon or ridiculous self appointed rank. We're here for the hobby, to have fun, and we hope you're joining us for the same.

Call into our forums, check out our wiki, or just let me know what you think here....

Current games you are going to be interested in...

The 58th Squadron 'Wildcards'
Based on a marine carrier the 58th are a squadron of fighter pilots, fighting in the newly broken out war against the Kzinti.

The 'Cats' have some new tech, new tactics and new fighters that have put our people up against it, the federation and her allies has already lost a few engagements and too many good people. It's always a close run thing and we're in it for the long haul.

Do you have 'the right stuff', have you had enough of playing 'nice-nice' explorers, do you want to be really up against it..

Join the 58th!

Hera Prime Combined Academy
As one might expect from an organisation as large as Star Fleet, not all officer cadets go to San Fransisco, there are better places. Alpha Centauri runs one, as do other active sectors, and now so does the Antares sector. Of course being out here on the frontier they do it a little differently.

For a start it is a combined academy, taking in fleet, Marine and even colonial cadets, a complete spectrum of the services that maintain the rule of law out here on the Federation's new border. Selection is hard, just getting ehre a major achievement, but once youre here things don't get easier, this is the most grueeling, and demanding course that young would be officers face in the galaxy.

They train hard, to be the best.

But it is not all classrooms and courses. These people are young, out going and enthusiastic, they form relationships, have hobbies, have arguments. They go on field trips and operational placements.

Not all of these go anything like what the cadet or the course convenor intended....

Re: RPG Recruitment Thread

Are you looking for a fast-based sim that you can get in on the ground level? The USS Renegade is just what you are looking for.

The year is 2385. Dominion splinter groups have started coming back, and now the Borg are rearing their ugly heads. Starfleet has ordered an experimental, long-deployment warship, the USS Renegade, into the Gamma Quadrant to evaluate the situation.

Currently, we are crewing up and looking for simmers of any experience level. New to simming? No problem, we'll help you get your feet wet. Once you start, you'll never look back.

In the meantime back in the Federation the project is classified as a failure and USS Interceptor declared as missing. However the project is soon put on ice when the Federation faces a new danger.

The year is 2401, and the Second Dominion War has just ended. The Federation has won the war, but it was at a great cost. The once mighty Federation is picking up the pieces left from the War and is beginning to rebuild. A peace has settled over the Alpha and Beta Quadrants as all the main powers are rebuilding their domains. Starfleet has built a new Flagship to lead the effort to restore the Federation. The USS Enterprise-I has set out to pioneer a way for a revitalized United Federation of Planets. ?Are you ready to join the crew of the Enterprise and become apart of a crew where a normal day means to expect the abnormal?

After the events surrounding the death of former crewmember, the crew of the Enterprise must now take Doctor Velktra Lockhart to her home planet of Vulcan. During the attempt to get away from justice by this crewman, she lured Dr. Lockhart into a trap; and then during a meld, she trapped the doctor within her own mind. Now they must take her to Vulcan so the damage that was done during the meld can be reversed..if it can be reversed.

Enroute to Vulcan, the science department of the USS Enterprise discovers a star about to go Nova in the neighboring Galaxy of M66-also known better as LEO. Excitedly, Commander Raifi Lan gains permission from the ships CO to take a shuttle team to a safe location within the M66 Galaxy to observe and take readings of the Super Nova as it occurs. It is a mission where nothing could possibly go wrong, or can it?

Competition description and rules:

Draw closes: December 1, 2009 The overall winner will be determined by the contributions made to Raptor Fleet. Post Quality and Quantity, participation in fleet discussions, forum participation and Bonus points if you recruit a friend to Raptor Fleet. If you have any questions regarding this competition, please don't hesitate to email the Competition Team:

Raptor Fleet was once a well-established and respected Star Trek role playing game, playing by both email and forum. Raptor Fleet has recently reformed and is back under new management. We currently consist of four starships and one starbase. We have no intention of adding any new ships to our fleet at this time, although we are always happy to welcome already established ships to join us.

We don't want to recruit too fast, and have numerous ships within our fleet. The thing that sets Raptor Fleet apart from others is that we are a friendly community of writers and strive to avoid game politics interfering in gaming. In addition, we try to find incentives for our players to get involved and stay active!

Or Fleet Staff consists of basic positions. This was intentional. We find that too many fleet staff members tends to lead to many arguments and bickering about who holds the most authority or who has the most pips. Raptor Fleet is run by the Command Council, which consists of the Fleet stand and commanding officers, with the Fleet Commander acting as the council head. We maintain a fleet Constitution that was voted into law by this Command Council of players.

The other thing that sets Raptor Fleet apart is that we have joined the figtht against child abuse. For every donation we receive we donate $1.00 towards an organisation that supports this fight.

Whether you're a civilian or a department head we appreciate any and all feedback and suggestions received by our members. In fact, any suggestions we receive are presented to the Command Council for a vote, with a majority vote responsible for the final decision.

Lastly, we value our players and want to thank them for participating. This is why we are introducing real competitions with real prizes! Visit our site and read more!

USS Searcher - Are you ready?

The Delta Quadrant, an awesome area of uncharted space, little of it known to all but a few from the Federation.

But now there is a way, the Union gate, opening the door for Starfleet to explore far beyond its own boarders.
And through that gate travels the USS Searcher. A powerful ship, built in the height of the dominion war, the Searcher now explores the Delta quadrant, to seek out new life and see wonders beyond imagining.

Carrying large numbers of fighter craft and an impressive arsenal, the Searcher is sent on the most dangerous of missions, into unfriendly territory where all the crew can rely on is there courage, their training, and most of all, one another, to draw them together and face anything this new territory.

The Searcher is an SMS simm that emphasises regular posting and immersive characters

Do you have what it takes to stand alongside the crew of the Searcher in the depths of the Delta Quadrant? If you are interested visit the website @

The Searcher-A is currently recruiting in its Prequel mission, ‘Old Warhorse’, and there are still many positions to be filled (Note, anything marked with an asterisk is a high priority position that needs to be filled).

The open positions are:
 • Chief Operations Officer*
 • Chief Engineering Officer*
 • Engineering Officer*
 • Chief Science Officer
 • Chief Medical Officer*
 • Chief Counselor
 • Chief Intelligence Officer

Re: RPG Recruitment Thread

Founded in 1991, STF existed originally on the Prodigy "Classic" network, which provided a unique bulletin-board style format. While most RPG groups conduct their actions in live chat, which requires everyone to be online at the same time, or play-by-email, which requires sifting through many messages on your email account, the WeBB provides a central location for our RPG.
In January of 2008 got a completely new look. Along with the new look we now have a more stable and reliable system to have our RP fun. It is easier to navigate, and read text.

Membership & Government
Our club has been growing steadily over the last 18 years, and now has a active membership size of 200 +.
Of those 18 years, our club has had a ruling body of a President, Vice President and cabinet members. All members are encouraged to test their skills in helping out in the government where they can.

We have five departments, which are designed to support our membership in varying ways.

The Personnel Department assigns each new member to a ship, matching up their requirements with available positions on ships. Our Personnel Department also assigns a mentor to those new members who request one. A mentor is a seasoned player who can assist the new member with any questions or concerns they may have.

Our Academy has two main interrelated roles. The first role is as a training environment for the brand new player in which the basics of bulletin board play are worked on and the only stupid question is the one unasked. The other role of the Academy is that it holds exams in the four main role playing areas, as well as Counselor, Department Head, Executive Officer, Commanding Officer and Gamemastering.
Our Gamesmaster Department has the role of regulating our Gamesmasters to ensure they are giving our membership the best possible role playing experience. This Department works with the Academy in training future Gamemasters. The GMD also maintains the GM Register of all active, inactive and retired GameMasters and previous missions as well as a Reference Manual on STF specific races, powers and locations.

Our Engineering Department ensures that all Roleplaying environments have ship and station specifications that are consistent with established Star Trek canon. These are accessible through a Technical Manual which lists these specifications as well as pieces of technology created by our membership. If you have a question related to technology within the Star Trek Universe, these are the people to ask!
The last department is our Internet Department which is responsible for maintaing the system on which runs. They may not be in the spotlight much, but when things go wrong, these are the people we all turn to for help.

We are a 13+ group.

Our Fleets
All together we currently have six mainstream fleets in our club, each of which have five or more ships within the fleet. STF also has an Academy Fleet which currently consists of four training ships. We can comfortably say that at a total of 37 ships one can RP on, we have the largest number of ships, for a text based Star Trek RPG anywhere on the net. While most of these environments are set in the Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager Era on either ships or starbases, we do have some alternative environments. These are a Comedy ship, a Medical ship, an Enterprise era ship, an Original Series movies era ship and a planet based environment.

We look forward to having you join us.

Romulan Simm

A message to all those wanting to serve the Romulan Star empire.

The recently commissioned IRW S'Task is looking for a crew willing to and capable of furthering the power and glory of the Star empire.

We're looking for new and/or experienced simmers alike, who'd like to play something else instead of the typical federation.

Although the ship is newly comissioned, it flies under the wings of the obsidian fleet, a long running Simm community with over 1100 active characters serving on 80 ships, so we have lots of experience in the world of simming.

sub-commander Miral Tal'Aurai

If you're interested in Simming on the S'Task, go to take a look around and perhaps sign up.

For more information on Obsidian fleet and it's many ships. check out

Computer games are a lot of fun, but I'd like to see more participation in some of the role playing games on-line. I belong to Arcacia Fleet and Starbase 49. SIMMs are fun and exciting... it's like writing your own adventure. See the link I posted under RPG's.
