Re: Looking for Avatar Help? Check here!

Ok, I've got an avatar that I've been using literally for years at various other bbs's ont the web. I set it in my profile and it was there and still is there. I just hit over 100 posts and it's not showing up. I've read the FAQ's and ended up here to see what the deal is. I know it's the proper size, because it's the same requirements pretty much on all bbs's regarding size. I have my own webspace where I have the pictures linked to, so I can't figure out why it's not showing up. Any help?

Damn, now look at that. It took until 104 actually.

Re: Looking for Avatar Help? Check here!

Dumb question, perhaps - how do we know how many posts we've made? That is, how do we know we're getting close to that magic 100 number?

Awesome. Man, that's still a lot of posting I'd have to do... Do you know why they have the 100+ rule? Is it as a reward toward more consistent posters or something?

Sort of. It's two fold. The rule is also a deterent for people registering with the intent of displaying improper images in the avatar space. That's happened before.

Right, you need 100 posts to be able to display an avatar at TBBS.

That url won't work here.

Try opening an account at www.photobucket.com as they'll assign your avatar a 'proper' url.

Re: Looking for Avatar Help? Check here!

Help! My avatar has been happily up for a few weeks now. Today I got a PM that it was "unsuitable".

The avatar utility reported the following problems with your image:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The image type was unexpected or unknown. The only valid image types are GIF, JPEG, and PNG.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Due to these problems, we have removed your avatar. The URL was: "http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y83/Mr_Chubbykins/McKayLeaderAv2.jpg"

Huh? But it's a jpg... I am very confused. Help!

If your host went down for a few minutes, you will get one of those. Just go in and add it back

Re: Looking for Avatar Help? Check here!

I know this is really late, but I figured I would post it anyway in case any new folks were wandering around and wondering if offers for avatar hosting were still valid. I have some extra web space/bandwith that isn't used each month so I'm willing to host avatars. Just drop me an e-mail at tozturktrek at politicsphilly.com with your info.

Re: Looking for Avatar Help? Check here!

I made an avatar from a 100 x 100 detail of my own LCARS system interface, since I wanted something unique. I converted it to 256-color .bmp then saved .gif and .png copies. I uploaded those two to ImageZs.com and tried to register the .gif version with TrekBBS. That wasn't accepted. I tried .png, and that wasn't accepted. In both cases, I got a message "Improper picture type."

[image]http://www.imagezs.com/member/pic.php?u=2769gLF5e&i=8537[/image]

It works if I append it to e-mail. What am I doing wrong?

Here's the link, pasting in the same as above:

LCARS 24 avatar

If you see it to the left, it means I found enlightment after posting this and solved the problem. I'm going to try Photobucket.com, as a mod suggested, and see what happens.
