Away team members always die

Whenever there's some new guys on the away team or at the helm they are always killed off somehow. Do you guys notice this too?

Nearly 48 years since the show came on the air and we never noticed!

Of course we noticed. Hence the "redshirts" meme.

How many helmsman bit the dust? Name one.

And they weren't Away Teams. They were Landing Parties.

That's the word I was thinking of. And Gary Mitchell was the helmsman who died, though not on a landing party!
