Clearly not enough of them.
Well met.

I enjoy Beavis and Butt-head and Bill & Ted, but I don't live my life, especially in relation to women, in that shallow mode.
And that's the spirit in which I take the occasional neanderthal remark in these threads - a shot of non-PC low-brow humor. Getting all steamed about it, especially in a thread that can't help but bring it out, is what I think is silly. It should be obvious from the thread title that if this kind of thing upsets one, one should avoid the thread.

How many babe threads have turned into this very discussion? Seems like a lot of them.
I wouldn't say I'm getting steamed about anything today. I'm not even as strong a thing as "upset". I'm just discussing my perspective. At least we agree that the threads are intended to be a place for Neanderthal remarks and low-brow humor.

See, that's entitlement. You're feeling entitled to judging women and their looks in this very shallow format that often ends up in blatant sexism and objectification of women.
And when women and men (rightly so) call the relevant people out on this behaviour your defense is: "Don't come here if it insults you."?

I mean, really?
No, fuck that. People are objectifying women in a public forum. They're reinforcing the sexist tendencies present in society and we're not going to shut up and look the other way.
If people want to promote the objectification of women they'd better be ready for some criticism. Again and again and again.

Sorry, this is how it's going to be. If people want to engage in objectification of women without getting called out on it they should do it when nobody is listening. We're not going away.

No one has ever come off better by rating a person's appearance. I'm not sure how that can even be debated, to be honest.

I think the very concept of beauty pageants is deranged but I might be in the minority there.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. This is a far kinder, more restrained response than I could have managed.

Avoid the thread if the attitudes insult us? Sure. Just like we avoid work in medicine, law, police work, business, IT, and any number of other jobs that still have a lot of misogyny in play.

These attitudes are not acceptable, and we're not going to pretend that they are.

Absolutely, yes. Fashion competitions and such are different but what you're mentioning is horrible.

Re: Sarah Carter: Babe of the Week #22 (July 2014)

I wasn't sure what american attitudes towards those comps were, we don't see such things here to the extent they seem normal in the US. I assume they are dying out?

Agreed, entirely. Outdated, outmoded, and embarrassing.

They are nowhere near as popular as they used to be, although we have these versions with little girls which seem to enjoy rising popularity and I find those creepy as fuck.

Re: Sarah Carter: Babe of the Week #22 (July 2014)

Donald Trump is involved with American beauty pageants so that's really all you need to know about them in order to judge.
