Star Trek: The Compendium

So, it's the set we've all been waiting for, right?

If you're in this forum, you probably already know the answer is no (JUST KIDDING); stick with me folks, this one's a doozy:

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/column...ts/062314_0600
The 4-disc Star Trek: The Compendium Blu-ray box set will include the original 2-disc Star Trek (2009) Blu-ray, with all of the great special edition extras that were on that original release, along with a new 2-disc Star Trek Into Darkness Blu-ray special edition. The first disc of the Star Trek Into Darkness SE includes the IMAX version of the film (in 2.35:1 aspect ratio, with select IMAX scenes included in 1.78:1), plus the “enhanced” audio commentary (with director J.J. Abrams, VFX supervisor Roger Guyett, co-producer Tommy Harper, composer Michael Giacchino, editors Maryann Brandon and Mary Jo Markey, D.P. Dan Mindel and second unit D.P. Bruce McCleary, producer Bryan Burk and writer/producer Damon Lindelof) that was previously available only via iTunes.

Then you get an entire Blu-ray of extras, including all 7 featurettes that were on regular SKUs of the Blu-ray (including Creating the Red Planet, Attack on Starfleet, The Klingon Home World, The Enemy of My Enemy, Ship to Ship, Brawl by the Bay, and Continuing the Mission), all 6 of the Target-exclusive featurettes (including The Voyage Begins... Again, Rebuilding the Enterprise, Vengeance Is Coming, Mr. Spock and Mr. Spock, Kirk and Spock, and Visual Affection) and the film’s trailers, plus all 6 Best Buy/Cinema Now-exclusive featurettes (including Down with the Ship, National Ignition Facility: Home of the Core, Safety First, Unlocking the Cut, The Sound of Music and FX, and Aliens Encountered).

So that’s everything that was available previously but scattered around to different retailers. On top of that, you also get all-new deleted scenes, an all-new photo gallery, an all-new Gag Reel, and 2 completely new featurettes (Fitting the Future, which looks at the film’s costumes, and Property of Starfleet, which examines the film’s props). You also get UltraViolet digital copies of both films. Note that Paramount is working to set up a rebate offer for those who purchased the original Star Trek Into Darkness Blu-ray, the details of which will follow soon.
Better late than never, I suppose...or is it about a year and a half too early?

Re: Star Trek: The Compendium

This is the BD release of the year for me! The IMAX footage filling the screen in my cinema room alone is worth whatever the asking price may be!

Re: Star Trek: The Compendium

Finally! They've got their $#*! together... It ought to be a separate IMAX release of STID really though. Variable aspect ratio alone is probably enough to justify double-dipping. Anybody who cares probably already has a 2 disc of ST 2009... so that's dead weight.

It's a Compendium set that feels like it's jumping the gun a bit. A year later in 2015 and it would be riding high on the buzz beginning to emerge about a third in production. Probably a go-to collection for new fans when that's in cinemas.

I don't double dip often, but the IMAX footage is enough reason for me to do so (I really like the IMAX variable ratio on the Nolan Batman films--was disappointed it wasn't initially available with Trek).

And this is why I didn't purchase STID the first time around.

Re: Star Trek: The Compendium

Nice now I can get rid of my Star Trek 2009 3 disk dvd set, the blu-ray single disk and the 3 disk Target exclusive STiD blu-ray. This will clear some shelf space. Time to pinch pennies since Capt. America Winter Soldier and season 1 of Agents of SHIELD come out the same day.

Hopefully the rebate for those of us who bought STiD on blu-ray is a nice one and not a cheapo one.

Still going to wait for the trilogy set...and then the fix of the trilogy set...

Have at it, though.

If Allan Asherman isn't involved, it's not the true Compendium.

Just you wait... when the third film is eventually released, it'll be rebranded the Concordance.

Will that make the eventual 13 film box set the Star Trek Encyclopedia?
