What the hell does length of seasons have to do with anything?

What are you even talking about?

And yes, Nolan was very much an outlaw. A scavenger and thief who was turned into a lawkeeper largely against his will.

But whatever, clearly you have your own view of things and it's not anywhere near mine, so discussing anything with you on the subject is completely pointless.

Re: Defiance Season 2 Discussion

1 season = 1 year, but not always.

Crichton had 44 episodes to develop in 2 years, while Nolan has only had 26.

Compare the 2 Sherlock Holmes (on television) at the moment.

In the first 2 years the English version of the of the character had 6 episodes to sell us on who he is, yet the American rendition of character was awarded 48 episodes to prove that he is fantastic.

It's a question of saturation.

Re: Defiance Season 2 Discussion

And any of that has to do with chemistry between characters... how exactly?

Chemistry between actors and their characters has absolutely nothing to do with a built-up relationship. In fact, they're pretty much exactly the opposite of one another. Chemistry is obvious from day one.

Browder oozes with charisma and worked well with his entire cast. Bowler, not even remotely. If he were plucked from the show today, it wouldn't matter one iota.

Has a single Defiance actor ever complained about working wih Grant Bowler. Browder might've had a great relationship with the cast but Chricton had a rocky one at best. Interestingly enough Bowler was on Farscape, he was the shaman in That Old Black Magic.

In most of the interview and stuff I've seen with the Canucks they didn't sound any different than when they were in character.

I've never really had any issues with Bowler. I like Nolan a lot.

Actually, that's pretty much what "chemistry" means in that sense.

And, again, I'm not saying his character is identical to Crichton, or even close to it. Just that they're the same general type of character; the out-of-place outlaw trying to do good, as well as the lead of the show. And Browder succeeded at that with flying colors, whereas Bowler doesn't even come close.

Hell, I couldn't remember how to spell his name so I looked up the cast on Google. Even they don't think he's worthy of listing first. XD (As opposed to most other shows.)
And two seasons of Defiance is alittle long than one season of Farscape. I don't see them as the same general type of character in that regard at all, Nolan is the law not an outlaw if Mad Max was a marshall. Nolan is a vet. Crichton is a mere pilot not a warrior. I don't see them all that similar at all.
i wouldn't say Nolan is like Chrichton as much as he ought to be like Peter Quill (Starlord of Guardians of the Galaxy).

Too much of a jerk to be a believable leader..as opposed to say Han Solo

Re: Defiance Season 2 Discussion

Has the game been discontinued?

These two properties are inextricably linked.

If one of them is above ground, then the other most surely is too.

Theoretically, the game can survive independent of the tv show. Granted, its popularity would plummet dramatically if the show's cancelled. I logged in on a whim last night and it was already a whole lot emptier than when the episodes were airing.

How did the show do ratings wise? Was it at all a success?

Re: Defiance Season 2 Discussion

Boutique networks can survive on lower ratings and have lower expectations for their programming which is why they can air complete shit and not worry so much, since their advertising revenue per second is considerably lower than Network TV, that sponsors accept lower ratings as a given because they are paying less per second for their ads to be aired.

The link above says that things look good, even though it's a month old.

NBC owns Syfy.

Did not know that.

Here are the actual ratings if the raw data means anything to you.

Re: Defiance Season 2 Discussion

I found this site which is following any news regarding renewal or cancellation and even includes ratings for each season 2 episode. And this expands on the possibility of renewal vs cancellation.

Basically, nothing's been announced either way yet, but a third season seems likely since SyFy has renewed other shows in the past which were getting equal or even lower ratings, such as Haven.
