Mixtape Thread

I'm fond of "mixtapes" / music mixes, and am curious if anyone else here is. The mix herein linked (click on the picture above to download) has its origins in a thread about "guilty pleasures" on A Forum That Shall Not Be Named.

Have some badass mp3s that you'd care to share? Does TrekBBS have some closet DJ's in The Proverbial House?

Right, but I suppose it all could be put onto a C120 cassette... although some songs would have to be a bit shortened to do that.

Re: Mixtape Thread

I have only heard of about six artists on that list... I am old.
I remember spending hours back in the day listening to the radio with the cassette player on play/record/pause just waiting for a song I liked to come on so I could record it.
I had a lot of songs start about 5 seconds in, and usually end with an overdub of the refrain with the DJ, or a commercial.

I know. I used to do them at CD length, but then it occurred to me one day that nobody uses CDs any more.

Oh and, uh, some of the tracks have lyrics that are a little NSFW. Guess I should've put that warning up front.

BigJake, I would probably kill myself after listening to your mixtape. That is HORRIBLE.

I don't do 'em anyway. I like albums. I don't even like Greatest Hits collections. Case in point, I own every Queen 7", 12", and studio album on both LP & CD, but I do not own Greatest Hits.

Gloriously horrible.

Hey, BigJake - It sounds like you need to add this to the end of the list, then:

Re: Mixtape Thread

Ahhh ... the lost art of the mixtape. I used to spend hours just planning them. Good times. I mostly use playlists now, which regularly exceed 150 songs.

But now that I think about it, I really ought to create some mixtape-length playlists (and then post some of them here). There's something to be said about having to constrain the playlist to a mere 90-100mins (I did use 120 tapes, but they rarely held up to extended playback).

2. Year of the Cat - Al Stewart
3. Mad World - Tears For Fears
4. Ain't No Sunshine - Bill Withers
5. Clocks - Coldplay
6. The Sound of Silence - Simon & Garfunkel
7. Lilac Wine - The Cinematic Orchestra
8. Hurt - Johnny Cash
9. Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton
10. Pink Moon - Nick Drake
