Sisko is my favorite not-Dukat suggestion in this thread.

At least until right now when I bring up Liam O'Donnell. I bet he and Worf get along REAL good.

If not Worf, then Sisko would be my choice.

I wish Elias Vaughan was still around. He'd be fun

Kira Nerys.
I'm not sure if this was intended seriously or as a joke, but it's honestly my favourite suggestion in this thread. But I'm guessing the writers' intent probably isn't to get her back into Starfleet.

I'm not really sure I want to see Worf in command of the big E. But TBH he wasn't really my favourite choice for first officer, either.

I also liked the suggestion of Benjamin Sisko. Assuming we want to go with characters that have already been established (not necessarily in novels), a couple of interesting choices could be Edam Astrun or Regina Farkas. Although I grant that neither of them would probably have the same "draw" that Kira or Sisko might.
Serious. I rather like Kira (hence the screen name) and think she would be an interting CO for the Enterprise. No idea what Kira's status is in the 24th (25th?) Century novels, I only read the TOS and ENT books.

And in STO, Kai Kira is still alive in 2409.

I think Sisko, it's a better place for him to be than the Robinson which we have no attachment too at all.

I'd rather see Sisko stay on the Robinson. Moving him to the Enterprise seems too small-universey to me.

That's why all the names mentioned are to small-universe and far-fetched for me. Data has made it clear that he no intention (for the forsee-able future) to return to the Fleet, and even if he did, he won't simply be offered a command.
Kira,, Riker, Sisko, Ezri.... they would all be to fan-wankish and weird.

Worf or a new character are the only real logical choices. And if it's a new character, please let him/her be alien. And not a complete new one, but an established race, like Andorian or Tellarite.

Realistically, it wouldn't go anyone who didn't already have a few years' starship command under their belt, probably more like a couple of decades like Picard had when he was given the E-D. Which would rule out everyone except veteran captains.

Of course, Trek's portrayal of promotion and command succession has never been particularly realistic.

Maybe a cadet could come on board against Starfleet orders, pull off a bold rescue of Picard from an enemy ship, and be given command of the Enterprise in recognition of his extraordinary command potential.

Don't be ridiculous. TPTB would never go for something that silly...

I wouldn't mind Worf.

The Sisko idea is cool, but if he was going to leave the Robinson, I'd rather see him back on DS9 or an Admiral.
If they were going to bring in someone not currently part of the series, I would rather see them bring in somebody with some kind of a connection to the Enterprise.

Maybe Worf, but I'd rather see La Forge.

But I agree, I don't think we'll see a successor for captain of the Enterprise-E. She'll be lost with all hands or decommissioned when Picard retires.

Now, the -F? That's an interesting question...
To be clear, I wasn't talking about the E-E specifically. To me, the Enterprise is the Enterprise. The letters represent different incarnations of the same ship. The name and history of the Enterprise are indistinguishable from the vessel itself.

--Sran
Aha, I see.

Well, in that case, I feel pretty strongly that the crew of the Enterprise-F should be entirely new. Only Kirk's crew and Picard's crew served on more than one Starship Enterprise. Stretching that to three? Nah, not for me.

Someone new. Don't care much more beyond that. Alien would be nice, but I'd be fine with an interesting human too.

Well, something more beyond being new: experienced. Just as Picard (and Kirk, to varying extents, depending on who you ask) was an accomplished veteran before getting the chair.

But I personally hope that it's a long time (in-universe and out-of-universe) before we have to find out who will captain the -F. And at that point, I'm sure there will be reasons (in-universe and out-of-universe), marking a particular candidate clearly the best.

I would love to see the Trek novels start over 100 or so years in the future. Completely reinvent the universe like "TNG" did, and give us a new crew on board the Enterprise-G or -H.

No idea how realistic that would be, but it could be fun.
