I'm almost done with season 1, it really just seems like standalone next gen style eps. at this point, but it is still pretty good, not much in the way of stuff to wonder about yet, I wonder who the guy was who retrieved "the eye" for Londo and said "you have friends you don't even know about" or something like that. also curious about the Vorlon in general, I'm guessing they a borderline "Q" light beings of some sort. I remember not being super into the "Starfury" fighter back in the 90s, I thought they were ugly x-wing knock offs, now watching it I think they might be one of the most well designed space fighters in all of SciFi.
A lot of it may seem like standalones at first (and one or two are) but most of these are either setting something up that may not come up again until *years* down the line while others are at least in part, meant for world building and character development.

I just wanted to tell the OP that the first season can be kind of rough and to hang in there. The later shows get much better.

Finished season one...1st ep of season two,,,So they finally explain what happened to Sinclair at the end of the war, and why the Minbari surrendered. now though Sincliar is Gone, (all the eps. I ever saw in the 90's were with this "new" guy) I am curious, was this part of the planned arc? or did the guy who played Sinclair not want to continue after the first season?, also, it would appear Delleen (sp) is about to hatch. Curious about this skitchy guy who "helped" londo by wiping out a narn base, is this the "enemy the humans and mimbari must unite against"? the plot thickens....

Re: So I started watching "Babylon 5" for the first time.

The true reason why Michael O'Hare (Sinclair) left the show was kept secret until just about a year ago. JMS had always said that it was a mutual decision, that O'Hare was wanting to go back to New York and the Theater and JMS had come up with some different angles he wanted to try which would sideline the Sinclair character for quite some time.

What actually happened was that during the latter half of the season, Michael began exhibiting delusional behavior, especially when tired or stressed. JMS was willing to shut the show down to allow Michael to get the treatment he needed, but Michael begged him to let him try to finish out the season. Some time later, JMS promised Michael to take he reason why Michael left 'to his grave' but Michael asked him to take it to *his* (Michael's) grave instead but to eventually let the fans know what happened. After Michael passed away late in 2012, JMS kept his promise and held a special panel at Phoenix Comic-Con's 20th anniversary reunion con to tell the fans.

Interesting, Micheal O'Hare's charicter seemed like a pretty mild mannered guy, I just assumed there was a small possibility that he never figured the show would last, and when it renewed for a second season, he wanted out. Sheridan seems like a good guy though...glad to see Tron running things there. lol

From memory no it wasn't part of the planned arc, but JMS who created the show and wrote most of the episodes had trapdoors for the characters so if an actor wanted to leave he could still tell the story. I could answer your question about they guy, but to avoid spoilers you'll just have to wait to find out.

If I had to guess at the S1 episode which has litte relevance to the shows overall plots and themes it would be "By Any Means Necessary"

But here is a blast from the past (As the OP has only seen bits of the show caution: Spoilers)

http://www.midwinter.com/lurk/lurker.html
Holy crap.. that's really a blast from the past

I used to frequent the site so often in the 90s when i had sporadic internet access at university and at friends, it was the best site for B5

Thank for the memories!
I meant Believers: I think it's the only episode that doesn't include a throwaway line that's later important. Of course, philosophicallly, it's quite important.

Let me just say, if you have the time to watch season one again after season four, and you'll see what an incredible job of world building was done in that first season.

Been doing a bit of re-watching B5 myself as Watch are re-running it in the UK. Still in season one.

Re: So I started watching "Babylon 5" for the first time.

Man, this thread has me pondering a B5 Re-watch myself. It's been a good decade since the last time I did it so it's about time. Maybe I'll start it after I finish the Farscape Re-watch I just began a few weeks ago.
