Rifftrax: The Super Mario Brothers Movie

Rifftrax, the present-day equivalent of Mystery Science Theater 3000 starring Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett today released their latest Video-on-Demand:

The 1993 Super Mario Brothers Movie!

LINK

Purchase includes the movie and the synced riff audio for $10. Quite the score for the guys over at Rifftrax, the movie may be a complete dud but it's still one the guys at RT would have had to pay the rights for.

Just got done watching it, pretty funny track. I wouldn't say it's one of their better efforts but still good for some laughs as this is one fans have been requesting for quite some time.

The recent issue of Prehistoric Times shows some of the masks IIRC

I wonder if I'm the only one who likes this movie?

^Nah, I'm sure there's like at least three, maybe as many as four others!

To be fair, it does fall into that "so bad it's good" category, which is kind of the point of MST3K & Rifftrax.

Re: Rifftrax: The Super Mario Brothers Movie

I enjoy the movie but I'll admit it's just about the only movie that I would classify as a totally guilty pleasure. Most dodgy movies that I enjoy at least have some redeeming qualities. (Example: Highlander II at least has some great production values even if the story makes no damn sense.) But I'm hard pressed to find too many redeeming qualities about Super Mario Bros.

Mostly, I just enjoy the surreal concept of attempting the impossible by adapting Super Mario Bros. into live action. They spend so much effort pounding that round peg into that square hole until the end results are pretty much unrecognizable!

But I will say this: Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo, & Dennis Hopper all acquit themselves marvelously!

So can you download these and are they actually DRM-free or are they locked somehow?

That's pretty much why I like it. Though I'll go one step further and say it definitely has some pretty ambitious ideas, which leads me to...

It takes some balls to take a concept like Super Mario Bros. and turn it into the kind of movie they ended up with. I just can't seem to hate it since it's so quotable and Dennis Hopper puts in a performance that is much better than I'm sure the script warranted.

They're DRM free. Purchasing them makes several file available to you all in MP4 format, all different sizes depending on the device you're going to watch them on. Also available is an .ISO/DVD image file with which you can use software to write the disc image onto a blank DVD and run in (most) DVD players.

No limits on the downloads, they're always available to you.

Check the site out, plenty of great VODs as well as shorts, not to mention "traditional" MP3 audio Rifftrax you play along with your own copy of the movie.

Been a member over there for years and have never had an issue with them and, again, they've always been DRM-free.

I forgot Rifftrax was still around.

This is one of the only movies I've tried to watch in a group, where we'd all throw in jabs as it rolled by, that we couldn't finish. Two of the group were in complete agony and couldn't stand it. This movie is special kind of bad.
