For the 50th anniversery

They should make a 2 hour TV movie for each series.

Re: For the 50th anniversery

As much as I'd love that, it would never happen. Making 5 movies, with a cast that's decades older than when the show aired, with sets and costumes that are long gone, would never be feasible.

Re: For the 50th anniversery

I wonder how many fans in their wildest imaginations could have ever imagined that there could be 6 films featuring the original cast going into the 1990s, with the oldest in the cast being in his 70s during the final film? I think we can throw the unfeasible argument out the window!

Hey man, I love the idea!

P.S. Anyone want to place bets on how long it will take for someone to post "the prime universe is dead" in this thread?

Nah we need a NEW series in the PRIME timeline.

Rehashing more old ground [like JJ did] just isn't whats needed and I dont really want to see my heroes so much older trying to squeeze into their uniforms.

I've never quite understood how those don't get cease and desist letters. Did they actually seek permission, or do TBTB just not care because it's non-profit? (It is, isn't it?)

Basically, as long as they're not selling it and making a profit, CBS turns a blind eye. It helps fuel the fanbase and doesn't cost them any money. They used to be much more strict about it (in the 90s) but have become more lax in recent years.

I cannot think of a worse idea, except maybe to have a musical made of the show, replete with a complete cast of midget Thai katooey militant feminists.

Unh-huh. So the DS9 tribute and Voyager episodes were bad ideas? Cause that's just an expansion.

Re: For the 50th anniversery

Those were done during the run of the series. They weren't tacked on a decade after the fact. Also, when was the last time you saw a 2-hour TV movie in the States that wasn't actually an episode of an existing show? The last thing I can think of is "Exiled", the Mike Logan L&O movie in 1998...& even then, the show was still on the air.

And everyone is just adding justification as to why, no matter how much we may want it to happen, we won't see be seeing 2-hour TV movies for every series next year, or ever.

We have enough psychics on this board to start a Psychic Trekkies Network.

It's not a matter of us being "psychics" but pure, simple logic. It just doesn't make sense logistically or financially for CBS to produce five Star Trek movies in a single year, starting from scratch for each one since the vast majority of the assets from the shows and movies are long gone.

Don't misunderstand me, I'd love to be proven wrong, but I think it's highly unlikely that will happen.

Not in the real world, we can't.

Do highly unlikely things happen sometimes? Sure, but that doesn't make them any less unlikely. You can't just dismiss practical considerations as though they don't matter.

I mean, I'd love to see a $200 million feature-length revival of CLEOPATRA 2525, too, but I'm not holding my breath.
